| Elliott Smith – Don't Go Down Lyrics | 19 years ago |

i think the "snowball" imagery and saying "hard and Cracked as the liberty bell" could be references to them both being druggies. snow, crack... and "dont go down" is him saying stay high with me. im not saying that this is the only interpretation of these lyrics, because i think all his songs have multiple interpretations... |

| Elliott Smith – Everything Reminds Me of Her Lyrics | 19 years ago |

i would agree that this song is easily about both. why do his songs only have to have one meaning? give him credit, he knew what he was doing. he purposefully made his songs generalized enough that it could be about whatever youre going through at the time. people in differnent situations can relate to the same song because of what it means to them. and right now, this song works for me as being about a guy who dumps a girl, and while it may not have bothered him before, tonight he cant stop thinking about her. the guy before me i think has a valid argument even though it is confusing in some places. |

| Elliott Smith – A Passing Feeling Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
this is my favorite song at the moment, but every song has held that position at one time so i dont know if thats saying much. anyway. i also have the live version and its just as good as the one on basement. his voice sure is shot in the recording, but it like delial said, it just adds to the song. but i love the words to this song so much now that i understand what they mean. "took a long time to stand, took an hour to fall. im stuck here waiting for a passing feeling...." this song in my mind is about being out of drugs and wanting more than anything to kill any negative feelings with a happy high. and yet its so true that the feeling is only passing. but what i love about elliotts songs is that even people who have never done drugs could relate to waiting for some passing feeling. i dont feel like im making much sense. all i know is that this song makes a lot of it in my head. oh, and i've always thought it was "my big quest for relief." but it doesnt really matter and i could very well be wrong. |

| Elliott Smith – No Name #3 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i read somewhere else that his parents would often fight, which would explain the part about interrupting the old fashioned fight (which im hearing upstars at this very moment). but instead of interrupting, ill just turn up this song and head home to oblivion. personally, i like that all piano tribute cd by the same title (home to oblivion). has anyone else heard it? | |
| Elliott Smith – Speed Trials Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i would just like to completely agree with the last entry. | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Lightness Lyrics | 19 years ago |

i love how everyone has different interpretations of the song that are all valid. the song is personal and yet generalized enough that it can have mulitiple appeals to people in different situations. but i thought the ivory lines were about cocaine. just sometimes it seems that certain parts of death cab songs are about drugs. |
