Help Myself Lyrics

A hungry boy
In a town of one hundred more
The food is out the door
Makes me want to help myself, help myself

A river red
Pouring from the side of his head
A bullet through the brain
Make him feel different today

Oh colder grow the days
Oh much faster pass the years by
'Til we die

A treasure not my own
I take it, took it, nobody will notice
Well that suits me well
Big house, big yard, help myself, help myself

Every once in a while
To help the helpless comes into style
The mercy mercy mile
1-800-help-myself, help myself

Oh, colder grow the days
Oh, much faster pass the years by
Oh, colder grow the days
Oh, much faster pass the years by
'Til we die

Summers here we're swimming in the river
Summer rain burns holes in flowers
Dangerous hours
Dangerous hours
Dangerous hours

Every now and then
TV preacher tell of Heaven
Redemption for a penny a soul
1-800 help yourself, help yourself
Help yourself

Summer's here we're swimming in the river
Summer rain come down come down come down come down
Summer's here we're dancing in the daisies
Summer rain burns holes in flowers
Dangerous hours
Dangerous hours
Dangerous hours

this song is about how most people in the world take everything they can get, without thinking of the less fortunate. And how as time goes on it's getting worse. It says that our world is falling apart. I like this song alot, it speaks the truth.

Probably my favorite post Under the Table song. From Scream 2, I can't believe no one has commented on this song yet.

everytime i have to do something that i dont wanna, i play this song and realize that i dont always need to help myself.

But I am confused too...how is it that dave talks about helping others when on some of his other songs such as "Don't drink the water" he talks about "living with the notion that he doesn't need anyone" but himself.

Just a random thought.

@DMBgirl267 Dave is an INFJ and so am I. A lot of his INFJ personality comes through in his music. We are contrdicions and it shows.

DMBgirl267 -- I'm surprised as a DMB fan and a user of this site you would think that Don't Drink the Water is a song about Dave... that song is about when the colonists came to America and pushed the Native Americans off their land. People were told not to drink the water from streams because there could be blood in it from all the fighting going on... Dave is always all about helping others! :)

this song to me is talking about how selfish people in the world today can be. Although there are starving people, wars, and crime...we can't seem to help them. Because we only care about helping ourselves, hence "help myself". And although those being selfish think everything is fine, things are slowing becoming worst [dangerous hours]. Good song though.
