superb lyrics.... i'm speechless
just a thought... consider the "i saw my baby boy, digging his own hole.... when he lied about intentions i should have done something" = somebody getting deeper and deeper into something.. (maybe depression, maybe drugs), and they lied about what they were going to do with a knife (sorry couldn't think of a good example) or something or the drugs or what not... i dont know i suck at explaining things but whenever i hear this song i always think that. btw, I LOVE THE GET UP KIDS!
A lot of people rant on the lyrical quality of Something to Write Home About but I really think 4MM is on the same level, as is On a Wire, and Pryor's New Amsterdams albums. The variety of music TGUK put along with these lyrics is what I believe makes them such a special band. They don't recycle, they evolve and mature.
THIS SONG DEFINES EMO. HE'S SAYING THAT HE WAS NEVER THERE FOR HIS KID, AND NOW HIS KID IS TURNING OUT TO BE A FUCK UP JUST LIKE HIM, AND ITS ALL HIS FAULT, AND HE TAKES IT OUT ON HIMSELF. HE'S GOT THE BANDAGES TO PROVE IT ~CLAY
