Let me be your one light
And if you'd like a true heart
Take the time to show you're mine
And I'll be a blue moon in the dark
While you sleep, you'll see me there
Clouds race across the sky
Close your eyes and don't ask why
And I'll be a blue moon in your eyes
Morning comes and sleeping's done
Birds sing outside
If demons come while you're under
I'll be a blue moon in the sky
And if you'd like a true heart
Take the time to show you're mine
And I'll be a blue moon in the dark
Clouds race across the sky
Close your eyes and don't ask why
And I'll be a blue moon in your eyes
Birds sing outside
If demons come while you're under
I'll be a blue moon in the sky

Every song on Big Star Third is an exploration of Alex Chilton's relationship with Lesa Aldridge. This is the sweetest love song on the record. For the flip side, listen to Holocaust.
beautiful song. it seems like alex wrote this song for a friend or lover who is in trouble to let them know he will be there for them in their time of need. the elliott smith cover version of this song is great too!
This song is amazing and beautiful.
It's easy to forget there there were some songs that were straightforward and caring from the album "Third/Sister Lovers" like this when critics and fans mainly think of the sarcastic ("Thank You Friends") or bleak and depressing ("Big Black Car" and "Holocaust").

I sing this song to my baby son when I put him down for sleeping. I think he loves it.
The song is about a romantic relationship, perhaps one going through the “power struggle phase”.
He’s letting his lover know he will be there for her, he’ll be “once in a blue moon” special to her, caring in rough times, guiding, comforting. All he asks is loyalty with her actions, and to show an effort in that, to “show you’re mine”.
He wants him to be only hers, and her to be only his and for him to fulfill all her needs.
