So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
And you bring me to my knees
All this time, that I could make you pleased, and you
All this time, when I felt insecure, and you
And I leave my burdens out the door
Chorus
I'm on the outside, I'm looking in
I can see through you, see your true colors
coz inside your ugly, your ugly like me
I can see through you, see to the real you
(random Fred Durst cuss words)
All this time, when I felt like this won't end
Was for you
And I taste
what I can never have
It's from you
All those times, when I tried
my intentions, full of pride
and I waste,
more time than anyone
Chorus
All the times, that I've cried
All this wasting
It's all inside
And I feel, all this pain
Stuffed it down
It's back again
and I lie, here in bed
All alone
I can't mend, and I feel
tomorrow will be Ok
But it won't
Chorus
All this time, that I could make you pleased, and you
All this time, when I felt insecure, and you
And I leave my burdens out the door
Chorus
I'm on the outside, I'm looking in
I can see through you, see your true colors
coz inside your ugly, your ugly like me
I can see through you, see to the real you
(random Fred Durst cuss words)
All this time, when I felt like this won't end
Was for you
And I taste
what I can never have
It's from you
All those times, when I tried
my intentions, full of pride
and I waste,
more time than anyone
Chorus
All the times, that I've cried
All this wasting
It's all inside
And I feel, all this pain
Stuffed it down
It's back again
and I lie, here in bed
All alone
I can't mend, and I feel
tomorrow will be Ok
But it won't
Chorus

It's "all the time that I could beg you please" They have the lyrics wrong. I think that Fred Durst was good in it, I've heard it with out him and I perfer that he's in it. Don't come here and bad mouth him. You don't know a thing about him or what he went through when he was a kid. You guys have NO right to say anything. 9/11 made Fred Durst realize what the world can go through and I honestly believe that it made him change some of his ways and made him a better person throughout. He's said that on many interviews that I've seen in magazines and on TV. He deserves some respect. Please give him that small satisfaction.
