Wait Lyrics
cause I must know the reason why we say goodbye
wait just a moment and tell me why
cause I can show you loving that you won't deny
cause I won't let that feeling walk out through the door
yeah wait just a moment and try once more
cause babe I need to hold you like I did before
cause there's a place inside my heart that tells me
hold out, hold out, hold out
I never had a chance to love you
wait - wait
if only our love could show you
wait - wait
I never wanna be without you
wait - wait
no I never had a chance to love you
now I only wanna say I love you
one more time
wait...
This is very beautiful song from White Lion. It is about "wanting to know the reason of the break up" and "trying ways to get back together." It is about relationship on the verge of breaking up..
It seems very high-schoolish to me, where someone breaks up with you and you are like "Why?" Maybe I just feel that way because I was in high school when this song came out. I LOVE Mike Tramp & White Lion though. They were so fabulous. Did you know they had a cameo in the Tom Hanks movie The Money Pit? I love that trivia bit (and that movie).
Actually, I really think it is about groupies. They spend one night with the band members and then think they are in love, and follow the band to different concerts. Everyone believes that if they could just get that hot musician guy alone they would see how perfect they are together.
I don't think this song is about groupies or high school relationships. It seems to me that the girlfriend didn't feel cared for and appreciated, so she's getting ready to leave. Meanwhile, the singer feels that he's never really expressed his emotions for the girl, hence the "Wait, I never had a chance to love you." There's a definite wish for closure here, and a realization of what would be missing if the relationship ended.
Actually a correction on my comment, I meant to post the following...
Boy meets girl, Boy and girl fall in love, Boy and girl have fight Girl leaves boy for good Boy begs her to stay Girl wants nothing to do with boy, Boy gets pissed and says "wait just a minute!" Girl doesn't give him a chance Boy has broken heart
He tries to save the relationship and uses the "I never had a chance to love you" line. Meaning he was stupid for never showing his true colors. Now that she's leaving, he sees the mistake he made with her.
Sorry about that, folks!
All of you guys are WRONG. This song is about Christy Muhaw (the girl in the music video). She died in a horrible car accident at the age of 23 before White Lion made Wait. This song was for her.
@forumtroll @forumtroll ... I must say, being a lead guitarist in an 80s cover band at that time in rock history, hailing from the same area in NJ... Your prospective is certainly feasible.. The songs inspiration could actually be a bit of everyones pov here... Much Love ... Joey Marraccino

actually it seems Christie Muhaw died in 1989. That being the case, the song was not for her. She is the beautiful woman in the video though, a Jersey girl. That does make the words of this ballad all the more poignant.

Could have been an unborn child that was miscarried

Ladies... are you paying attention here? ;)
Yes, it's that simple folks. :)
