Sing You a Love You Song Lyrics

Before the laughter and the cheer
Dissolves into his memory
Taste of vodka on his lips
And thoughts of murder and doom
Her eyes appeared to bloom
He wanted to touch them but was afraid
She'd be taken aback
Then what would he say?

They walked to the garden in the park
When it was empty after dark
Then spread out a blanket and laid down
And in a voice that no one else could hear
He whispered in her ear
"Although I can't sing it now, be still
Someday, baby, I will
Sing you a love you song"

She rolled over and a kiss
Laid softly on his chin
And said, "You know maybe there's a chance
That your feelings you've mistook
Or have presently overlooked
You say you don't love me
But yet perhaps you just
Forgot that you do"

He said that, "I love you, please believe
The only matter of concern
Is that your love will one day fade
If that should happen I would die
And that's the reason why
I know I can't sing it now, but be still
Because someday, baby, I will
Sing you a love you song"

She said, "How could you question
When the root of my affection
Is so plain and obvious?
It grew from the overwhelming pleasure
Of just being near you
And now you bring in doubts
And they are smothering our love!"

to me, this song is about two people who have known each other for quite a long time, and the girl is in love with the narrator. he has developed feelings for her as well, and has been dwelling upon those feelings for awhile now. he decides to tell her about his feelings, but in such a way that he also says he'll only do something about them later on, because he's unsure of starting things with her or not, because he has a lot of insecurities he's got to work out.

the desperation in his voice during the last part of the song really hit home for me, it's so sweet. I can't get over those lyrics... the girl wants to seize the day and live life while she still can, professing her love to him and trying to convince him it's safe, that he can let his guard down with her, yet he still holds back...though at the same time telling her that eventually he'll come around. sounds like a frustrating situation, eh? it's interesting how cryptic so many of their songs can be, and yet this one shouts loud and clear, totally obvious in what it's about. i love how vivid the imagery i get from this song is. dark day in the park, damp grass, lanterns hanging from trees... soft voices. warmth and a starry sky...
Edited by delial on May 28 2008, at 03:08AM

To me this song represents a power struggle between two people. The woman in this song already gave herself to this guy. She is waiting for him to come around and realize it. She knows he loves her. And because he is unemotional it brings out her insecurities. Actions prove he cares. Words mean everything to this type of girl.
