Silent Victory Lyrics
Somewhere beneath the laughter
The anger begins to affect her
Timid like a Chinese whisper
Calm like a needle in the eye of a twister
We won't surrender
Until the end
Truthful pretender
Won't someone hear the battle-cry
She said you're a substitute
She said can't you see we're through
One more silent victory
Victory
Struggling hard to forget her
He slowly begins to regret her
Anger is all that she lived for
Walked over his life and then out through the front door
We won't surrender
Until the end
Truthful pretender
Won't someone hear the battle-cry
Chorus
We won't surrender until the end
Truthful pretender
Like somebody seized the day
Love ran away
Chorus
The anger begins to affect her
Timid like a Chinese whisper
Calm like a needle in the eye of a twister
Until the end
Truthful pretender
Won't someone hear the battle-cry
She said can't you see we're through
One more silent victory
Victory
He slowly begins to regret her
Anger is all that she lived for
Walked over his life and then out through the front door
Until the end
Truthful pretender
Won't someone hear the battle-cry
Truthful pretender
Like somebody seized the day
Love ran away

definitely a "relationship gone wrong" song, the two verses ("somewhere beneath..." and "struggling hard...") seem to be from the woman and the man's points of view...but the pre-chorus is confusing. I'd love to see someone else's view on it, migh clarify my view.
Purely from a sonic point of view, the song is an attempt at making a punky AC/DC song(and a pretty good one at that). The pre chorus is like a shout-along refrain. The pre chorus appear to mean nothing in a lyrics context.
Well the lyrics don't seem too much AC/DC (which are a lot about sex, booze and rocking) but the guitarwork definitely sounds it. Good call.
maybe this is a chik trying to get revenge on an exboyfriend? he's trying to forget it... and she doesn't want to. she's pretending she's already forgotten. " She said 'you're a substitute', She said 'can't you see we're through?' " maybe she's trying to make him seem the one who still hangs on? maybe...?
