Evil Eyes Lyrics

Hide in the midnight
Turn out the lights, you'll see them anyway
Sail into never, they'll follow wherever you can go
And take you to the places you don't know

It's the call of the city
The way that black's pretty to the purest heart
It's places of pleasure
They promise you treasure if you fly
And then there goes the soul of you and I

Oh do you ever think about
The way I caught the rainbow
I'll be there where fire makes you dance
I'm gonna give you the look
That opens up the skies

I've got Evil Eyes...

Hide in the midnight
Turn out the light, they'll see you anyway
Sail into never, they'll follow wherever you can go

I've got Evil Eyes...

Damn Trapezoid, you always seem to tell it right. And, no, I am not being sarcastic.

But I was thinking, the heavy metal symbol Dio popularized, he got from his Grandmother who did it to ward off the "Evil Eye" Perhaps, he's paying homage to her their as a little side thing.

Not trying to contradict Trapezoids explanation because what he says about Dio's songs is always better than what others say.

@Hybrid1492 Yes, it is a superstition that some Italians and Greeks believe in, μάτι [mati] in Greek and malocchio in Italian. (Could also be believed in other countries that I am not aware of.) You can ether give or receive the look (evil eye), most commonly is given by envy. Among other things the evil eye is believed to cause dizziness and headaches. Both Italians and Greeks use charms to protect themselves from it or pray to "lift the curse". Dio's hand gesture is known as corna which also is believed to ward off the evil eye.

Anyone ever seen Tool Lateralus CD/ or videos/art? You will see these EYES all over the place, often connected/linked in a circle/chain. I believe both Tool and Dio are in contact with some supernatural entities nicknamed as "Evil Eyes". They are many, yet one, and watch over humans.. like that Eye ontop of the pyramid on a USA 1$ bill. I've come in contact with them too. Dio says, "And take you to the places you don't know." because they can take your a portion of your "soul" out of your physical body and show you astral planes (like the internet [everyone connected together], yet through a dream state). -trap

The opening riff kinda sounds like a faster pace version of the opening in "Catch the Rainbow" by Rainbow, Dio's earlier band. One of the lyrics is:

Oh do you ever think about The way I caught the rainbow

I might be over analyzing this way too much, but some of the meaning behind this song might be either a reference to Rainbow or some kind of diss to Ritchie Blackmore. Dio didn't seem like that kind of guy though.

I love the song and the tempo as well...kinda like " we rock ".......its fast !! I detected a bit of anger ,right when he sings "" do you ever think about the way I caught the rainbow ""........he's angry about something.......he wants revenge.....for somthin.....I think perhaps its about a girl that fell for some older dude that may have had more to offer.....like a driver's license/ car / job...muscles, and little Ronnie was just 15 yrs old and didn't have all that, yet.... Js.....
