I will stop
I will stop at nothing
Say the right things
When electioneering
I trust I can rely on your vote

When I go forwards, you go backwards
And somewhere we will meet
When I go forwards, you go backwards
And somewhere we will meet
Ha, ha, ha

Riot shields
Voodoo economics
It's life, it's life
It's just business
Cattle prods and the I.M.F.
I trust I can rely on your vote

When I go forwards, you go backwards
And somewhere we will meet
When I go forwards, you go backwards
And somewhere we will meet

There are so many comments about voters, but I got a different mental image from this song. This song gives me a feeling of underhanded dealings between politicians and their financiers. I see a politician and a union head smoking cigars and shaking hands, proud of the deal they made to screw over everyone else for their benefit. I think the second verse really supports this idea. And Fat-Elvis is right... these concepts are more relevant than ever.

The chorus isn't meant to be taken literally. I think a TON of people missed that. The idea (I think) Radiohead is trying to get across is the widening of some kind of social gap. The high get higher and the low get lower... and somehow the politician has convinced you that "somewhere we will meet," an obvious impossibility.
