Blood Of The Zodiac Lyrics

A blind man asked an angel
Could you please help
But was told
Take me from this altar
I won't falter
But I might fall

This bitter man would understand
Through all his life,
a needle had
Been his saviour,
been his God
So he tried to make a change
Tried to rearrange
Gun at his side,
suicide

I can't help feel I been mistreated
Won't you listen to me

Chorus:
Despise all that I see
All that I feel
All that I want to be
Burned, blistered and raw
Tearing apart
All that is sane to me

A wise man half pariah
Half messiah
Came to seed
Rain down blood like fire
Born to sire
Racist breed

His dominance of ignorance
Was rhetoric that made no sense
Some believed in all the lies
But in my mind I know what's wrong
Way too fucking strong
Taste the revenge on my tongue

I can't help feel I been mistreated
Won't you listen to me

Despise all that I see
All that I feel
All that I want to be
Burned, blistered and raw
Tearing apart
All that is sane to me

Lead: Logan
Lead: Robb

[spoken part]

And now is my time to rise
And now is our time to rise
Our time To rise

Ignorant, indignant
Promises made in
Vain

Rise, I can't see like you
Rise, I can't feel like you
Rise, never be like you
Rise, time for all us to
Rise...

It's about making your own opinions and not relying on others to think for you. He sees people falling to the abusive thoughts of others and chooses to rise above that which tries to bring him down.

Considering Robb was addicted to crack, and considering that a lot of drug addicts turn to religion at some point to try to kick their habit, this could be what the song is about. Not necessarily him personally, but maybe inspired by the experiences of other users whom sought religion and, as the lyrics suggest, got no help. Instead of being uplifted, they felt put down, judged, and ultimately saw through the lies (ignorant, indignant promises made in vain). Religion is very good at making people feel like shit and kicking them when their already down. Oh and it also doesn't help that there's no god to start with, but that's just my opinion... each to their own.

It's also the best song Machine Head's ever produced.

This track critiques leaders, religion, as well as betrayal, and the cycle of violence that feels inevitable. The blind man represents people in need of help, reaching out to an angel for assistance, but only receiving conditions to meet if he wants help. This sense of despair drives him to contemplate suicide, as he feels mistreated and unheard, not getting the aid he seeks. Opposite him, the wise man is both a pariah and a messiah, a figure who dominates with ignorance, using rhetoric and false promises to manipulate others. Despite some believing in his lies, the character in the song sees through the deception. They know that his actions are wrong, and by the end of the song, they seek revenge.

It also proposes the idea that violence and suffering are tied to the zodiac, a symbol of fate and destiny, and that mankind’s brutality is eternal, written in the stars, as it cannot be escaped. Were are all fated to either inflict suffering or fight back.

...think it may have crossed Flynn's mind, when he was writing this, that perhaps the title was a little evocative of the Zodiac killer?

i god damn love this song, it's by far my favourite machine head track, and i'm a big fan of their stuff. i really wanna know what it's about, as far as i can tell, it's about one man standing up for his beliefs against some sort of oppressor, like a dictator or something, but i could be completely wrong.

I know some members hate it when people come here and say "I love this song"... but fuck it. I LOVE THIS SONG.

Machine Head at their very, very, very best.

I have no idea what it is about, it's not too cryptic but I don't care to decode. I take it for what it is and I like it just fine thank you very much.

Personally I think it's about religion, not entirely sure because some things point to it being someone who doesnt understand and doesn't care to ever understand...but for the most part I agree with ASFalcon13

anybody knows Robb's words to this spoken part?

Blood of the zodiac kind of suggests that there are pieces of us that we just inherit, like an astrological sign is completely out of our control.
