Never Comes The Day Lyrics

Work away today, work away tomorrow.
Never comes the day for my love and me.
I feel her gently sighing as the evening slips away.
If only you knew what's inside of me now
You wouldn't want to know me somehow,
But
You will love me tonight,
We alone will be alright,
In the end.
Give just a little bit more
Take a little bit less
From each other tonight
Admit what you're feeling
And see what's in front of you,
It's never out of your sight.
You know it's true,
We all know that it's true.

Work away today, work away tomorrow.
Never comes the day for my love and me.
I feel her gently sighing as the evening slips away.
If only you knew what's inside of me now
You wouldn't want to know me somehow,
But
You will love me tonight,
We alone will be alright,
In the end.

Give just a little bit more
Take a little bit less
From each other tonight
Admit what you're feeling
And see what's in front of you,
It's never out of your sight.
You know it's true,
We all know that it's true.

These guys have a way with these songs that speak about love in metaphysical and existential terms. Maybe or maybe not, but this songs is one of the best among their earlier recordings. This tune is very good.

My wife and I have always laughed that this is our theme song. We never feel like we get enough of each other and are working our lives away some times.

It is indeed a beautiful song and very powerful.

The song speaks about a couple who work hard and never have time for the other, or maybe about an ideal future love which hasn't been materialised so far yet.

The beginning is a pure expression of thoughts and feelings, with a great honesty, about that distance and how it affects him emotionally.

Then, the other part explodes, as from a spak of wisdom, understanding the reason on everything, and philosophy appears healing it all: "Give just a little bit more, take a little bit less". Giving is by far the essential answer to most of relational problems in the world, and here the person finds the answer in giving, and taking the most of the time together with the loved person.

The song is one of the best songs I ever heard, the contrast between parts 1/3 and parts 2/4 makes it unique, if only really similar structurally to 'Tuesday Afternoon', very philosophical as well, but more introspective than centered on relations like this one.

Excellent assessments. I often relate songs to individuals. I have a friend that I met in business who's always made me think of the song "Lovely To See You" but I've realized it's more than that. We are both busy with careers, and live in different places so I don't see her often but whenever I see her I think of "Never Comes The Day" because I am living it.

i love this song so freakin much! i really like the song until its gets faster paced and they say "give a little more take a little bit less" cuz the slower part of the song sounds so sad but really pretty......anyways i love this song!

I read here some truly head-scratching, off-base interpretations of the line "you wouldn't want to know me somehow." This is an expression of vulnerability, uncertainty, and lack of self-esteem and self-confidence, a pre-emptive prediction that you will very likely find me disappointing once you really get to know me. Reminds me of the song, "She's Too Good for Me," on Warren Zevon's last album, "The Wind," where he mournfully sings "trust me when I tell you I'm not good enough for her."

Justin said during an interview (Audience with a View) that it's a "Girl on the Road" song. I suspect the "You wouldn't want to know me somehow" line refers to "I won't be staying". I think the song is truly saying lets make the most of the time we have together, even if it's not forever.

I always got this vibe - that the line suggested he would be leaving and she'd regret the encounter. Definitely one of those "love the one you're with" songs, but still beautiful.

‘You wouldn’t want to know me somehow’ jolts the song into him having questionable motives. ‘Admit what you’re feeling’, also suggests he’s taking a rather predatory view, as does him singing ‘You will love me tonight’. Likely just a casual thing for him, but one he enjoys taking advantage of.

"You wouldn't want to know me somehow" - This line just seems out of place in this song... Is he thinking about strangling her, leaving her, I can't think how this line makes sense in the context of the rest of the song, which to me is a song about life being so busy that we sometimes don't focus on the truly important things.

That line to me is is like having a secret. In a relationship that not sure how the other person would react to it enough that they simply lose interest in you. Like another post suggested simply gone to much but I think if you look at it like that it completely fits including with the take that that one person is gone a lot. If it's inside of him to simply gone a lot then it might seem easier if she in his mind understood that maybe it would be be easier kind of easier ...

"You wouldn't want to know me somehow" to me seems to be that he has some impure thought, something along the lines of cheating on her or just thinking about screwing her brains out but it definitly seems out of place.

The first part (slow part) seems to me that its about a couple that can never find time for each other and when they do its never enough time. The second part (fast part) is about how the girl doesn't admit that they are in love and that she should just admit it and take advantage of the time they have together.

This song is also one of the many songs that they just repeat the whole thing over for no apparent reason. If you want to look into it then I would say its just the same thing happens every night that they get together
