Late Lament Lyrics
Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy is spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one;
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight
Red is grey is yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy is spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one;
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Removes the colours from our sight
Red is grey is yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion

May I suggest an alternate thought Cold-hearted orb that rules the night- what orb rules al most all home's TV's Removes the colours from our sight - in the time this was written B&W TV was the norm and yes Red is gray Yellow is white Red is grey is yellow white But we decide which is right And which is an illusion - it's all an illusion on TV These lines - letters are written - never meaning to send and many more if you look at it in this light
@ken1150445 You are way over thinking this, an orb is round, he is referring to the moon, H.P. Graham's post at the bottom sums it up perfectly.

Lament reminds me of the closing chapters of the Book of Ecclesiastes as the author looks back at life, its successes and futility. In a sense it is a counterpart to the Byrds' Turn, Turn, Turn.
Love <3
The poem is about how at night, everybody looks back at the day, and by extension their lives, with some degree of regret.
