A Welcome Burden Lyrics

SHOUT!

Heavy! You want it heavy!
Welcome to my world, either way you pick you're winding down
Heavy! I want it heavy!
Welcome to my world, either way you pick you're winding down again

Gather your pathetic masses and bring them to me
To a world devoid of lie
To another time, to another place
And then the broken ones tastes my misery
Rip away her disguise and brothel the lies that ya find
The truth is sickening!
We don't need to change it, really
I kind of like it ugly!

Lay it mean! It binding! Seathing! Blinding! Screaming!

Gather your psychotic masses and bring them to me
To a world devoid of sanity
Another time, & another place
And then the violence creates calamity
Rip away her disguise and brothel the lies that ya find
The truth is sickening!
We don't need to change it, really
I kind of like it ugly!

The race of the Mother Culture is thickening!
The rape of the Mother Culture is nearing!
The face of the Mother Culture is sickening!
The rape of a Mother is the loving I need
Bleeding now - 1! 2! 3! 4!

Are you sure of these lyrics?

I could have sworn in the beginning he says

"Welcome to my world, feel the weight of it grinding down."

And another one:

"Leave it! Make it... binding! Seathing! Blinding! Screaming!"

I'm far from saying I'm right, but I was just wondering cause thats what it sounds like to me and I've become pretty good at distinguishing what he says.

As for the meaning of the song, it appears to be one of Disturbed's (very) few political commentaries; dosen't that fifth line remind anyone of the engraving on the Statue of Liberty?

I think that this song is a political commentary on immigrants who come to the USA looking to find that "the truth is sickening" and that life in a new country isn't as some say it is. The streets here are not paved with gold. And things probably won't get much better because "we don't need to change that really" because I ( Joe America) "kind of like it ugly." Also, I think the first line of the first verse hints that this song is more about the immigrants of the late 19th/ early 20th century.

@Nyg1515 I agree, and I think that the "mother culture" refers to the culture of the new immigrants that English America despised and tried to pressure them into abandoning. (As a descendent of Polish immigrants, I am glad that they seem to have mostly failed.)

Probably the best non-album song by Disturbed. As far as I know, it is on no soundtrack. They recorded it live in the studio, but didn't put it on "The Sickness" There is footage of them in the studio playing it on the M.O.L DVD.
