Everybody loves a rose, But will you be thankful for the thorns?
Love is easy when you're loved,
But do you curse another when you're alone?

Chorus:
Oh, I give my life to you so I can gain it back again
Oh, I stand silent while the paradigm is shifting

You say live and let live,
But people are dying everyday
And you say what I don't know won't hurt me
But if what I do not know is the very thing I need, then I say
Humanity sees truth through a shattered window pane
That blocks the view, and plants the seed
So we draw the cutains to close but I say
That the sun can still shine behind a closed mind
And sticks and stones do hurt
When tossed from the tongue of mankind

I love this song... I see this as a man pouring out his oppinions and questions into one of the most beautiful songs ever written. The chorous just states the basis of Christianity. Give everything to God and He'll give you it back washed clean so you can live with Him for eternity.

I love this song... To me this song clearly states the difficulty of being a christian. You give up everything but you gain something greater in return, God.

I don't know how i discovered this song, but i'm pretty sure it was byaccident. For me, this song has nothing to do with religion. Although i know nothing about All Together Separate, i am making the assumption that they are a christian band. I am the opposite of religious. Anyway, this song still hits me on many different levels, and this song feels so open to interpretation. It's a great song, and i don't think i'll ever get enough of it.

"You say live and let live, But people are dying everyday"

This is not necessarily a physical death, but also spiritually. 2 Corinthians 4:16 assures believers that those who set their hearts in Christ will be renewed everyday even if they are wasting away on the outside.

"And you say what I don't know won't hurt me But if what I do not know is the very thing I need"

Ignorance is not bliss. This song challenges the complacency of humanity.

"Humanity sees truth through a shattered window pane."

It's as if we have all decided what our own view of life should be so much so that we have shattered the glass we are looking out of instead of looking to the eternal consistency of the one who fixes everything.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
