Hurt Lyrics

Don't talk to me about living a lie
Misery is more than just a tear in the eye
Because you don't feel anything that can't be explained
By shallow mined people that you've choosen to blame

Don't rely on sympathy to carry it through
Because they don't belive it more than I believe you
You don't feel anything, you don't see anything
It's up to you to change
But here you go again

You don't feel the hurt like I do
You don't feel betrayed the way I do
You don't feel the hurt like I do
So don't say to me you've been there too.

Don't scream at me as if you're losing your hold
You won't mess with anyone that can't be controlled
Modesty was never such a weakness in you
I've never seen it figure in the things that you do

You won't take the side, losing its pride
Never heard from anyone that you can be kind
You don't know anything, you can't touch anything
It's up to you to see
But now you come to me

You don't feel the hurt like I do
You don't feel betrayed the way I do
You don't feel the hurt like I do
So don't say to me you've been there too.

Of all the people there could be, you had to tell your lies to me
Of all the people there could be, it had to be you.

You don't feel the hurt like I do
You don't feel betrayed the way I do
You don't feel the hurt like I do
So don't say to me you've been there too.

Don't talk to me about living a lie
Because misery is more than just a tear in the eye...

Cover art for Hurt lyrics by Mesh

This album is about a woman in love with an abusive alcoholic. This song is told through her eyes. He keeps promising he'll stop drinking but he's a liar, he has no real intention of quitting, he refuses to get help, so he ends up getting drunk and belligerent toward her and ultimately abusing her. These drinking binges can go on for days, but when he's done with the binge he doesn't even understand how much damage he did while he was drunk, he doesn't even remember most of it. She's absolutely devastated by the pain he's caused her. She can barely get out of bed, she's had to miss work, and she can't stop crying. But he usually thinks she's overreacting, that it was no big deal, and he rarely ever apologizes for his behavior. Every once in a while it's so bad that he actually DOES apologize, he says that he really DOES want to quit drinking, he doesn't want to lose her, but his words are nothing but a bunch of lies. She wants to believe him, she tries SO hard to make him understand, she forgives him over and over again, she tries so hard to make him happy, hoping he might actually start to care about her, yet he keeps lying to her...and nothing hurts more than when you love someone so much you'd do anything for them, and instead of appreciating you they just keep telling you more and more lies. "Of all the people there could be, you had to tell your lies to me. Of all the people there could be, it had to be you."
