The Next In Line Lyrics
born on the southside, you live alone
four walls and a roof but's always cold
look out the window and there is nothing to see
but, a riot torn city and the death of your country
and your chilled to the bone
with no possessions to call your own
yet you control your rage and you resist the crime
because you’re the next in line
out the back door and to corner store all
you want is a drink and nothing more
sit on the stoop and let the liquor soothe your pride
before you go inside
you in cut in front
and now your the next in line
you never thought you'd lead a life of crime
freedom's the only thing you need
but the truth is something few understand and
an unwelcome reality
now it's dark and black and sad and gone
you express and repress the thing gone wrong
and you want to be the man who ran away
and you wish you could back to yesterday
now he's in her room and he's about to lie
so you pull the gun and squeeze the trigger and
let the bullets fly...

hey this is a good song but kinda makes me sad for some reason....
I like this song, but it rather depresses me, because it leaves you alone with the impression of having no option in life. This guy gives up all his hope and kills himself in the end. But I think there is one line in this song, that needs to be explained: freedom's the only thing you need but the truth is something few understand and an unwelcome reality I ask myself, what freedom is meant to be here?

I think either something happened to him or he did something that was so traumatic that it scarred his brain to where the reality of improving his situation was futile by the damaging thoughts of suicide and a system constructed to an even slower oppression of suicide from a criminal justice system standpoint. So by saying few people understand freedom, in my interpretation means so few have been in a situation where they understand what true freedom is and like the words say, aren't accepted as reality because nobody wants to confront any issue unrelated to truth and a...

Dark song about living in a hopeless situation, and suffering from loss and pain for far too long, he caves in to societal pressure to survive, and in the end takes his own life.
Sometimes life doesn't have a happy ending, and you have to either figure it out, and make it better, or end it before the darkness swallows you whole and you hurt others with your pain.
Excellent song, very relatable if you come from a fucked up life. Love The Utters, they keep the shite real, and as Punk as Fuck
@Daken311 I don't think he takes his life, I think he kills someone. It talks about maintaining self control and not stooping to committing crimes since it's clear this guy has hit rock bottom. In my mind, he either robs a store or gets revenge on someone who he blames for putting him in his current situation

nobodys said shit about this song????? where are you people? this song is super awesome. who knows what it means...but i get a good feeling from it and it just makes me happy and want to go somewhere!!! maybe out of michigan..lol
this song is great. But it doesnt make me happy because its about a guy who lives in the dumps and hes the next in line to start stealing and eventually kill himself. In the beggining he doesnt even think of leading a life of crime, but as the song goes on he eventually starts commiting crimes. At least thats what I think it means
