Black Velveteen

In an interview, Lenny said that this was in fact a song about a futuristic robot woman. It's about how in the future love will become a meaningless emotion and you could resort to a robot to get your pleasure and companionship. Weird, but at the same time, frightening, because I know people who actually would take the robot over a human companion. O_o

Who do you think this song is about? I've always wondered. Think it could be Vanessa Paradis, Johnny Depp's significant other? She and Lenny used to date and she's from France.

Some of my friends get the impression it's about a mechanical woman whose only purpose is to be a sex slave (ready to please, free from disease...) & take care of the house (don't give a damn, she'll do dishes). It seems too much like a futuristic idea to be an actual person - then again, I didn't write the song :)

Considering the subject matter, I can't quite imagine a sex robot owning a cat, so I bet he's using cat in place of pussy. :P

hmm, this is probably my favorite song by him. thing is, I never could actually hear the word "clit" in the song before, and makes this song very weird for me now o_O

but it's still awesome

This song isn't just about a top-of-the-line sex robot/companion. It's a male fantasy about getting benefits of an intimate relationship without the responsibility of reciprocation.

For some strange reason, this is one of my favorite Lenny songs. I know it's about female robots and how the idea of love for most is degenerating but I still love it. The combo of Lenny's vocals, the futuristic-sounding instruments and the wacked lyrics just make it great. My favorite part of the song is when Lenny sings, "Black Velveteen don't give a damn, she'll do dishes." The way Lenny says dishes is funny. I have such superficial reasons for liking a song, I know.

I hear some of the lyrics differently than they're listed here. I hear "bed machine" instead of "bad machine," and I also hear "Black Velveteen's cunt smells like strawberry cream" instead of "Black Velveteen's cat smells like strawberry kittens." Who knows, maybe I'm just perverted and hear what I wanna. :)
