Selling out
Is not my thing
Walk away
I won't be broken again
I'm not
I'm not what you think
Dream away your life
Someone else's dream
Nothing equals nothing
Letting go
Is not my thing
Walk away
Won't let it happen again
I'm not
I'm not very smart
Why should I feel sad
For what I never had
Nothing equals nothing
Chorus:
Turn to stone
Lose my faith
I'll be gone
Before it happens
(repeat)
Selling out
Is not my thing
Walk away
I won't be broken again
I won't
I won't fall apart
Dream away your life
Dream away your dream
Nothing equals nothing
(chorus)
Turn to stone [turn to stone]
Lose my faith [lose my faith]
I'll be gone
Before it happens
Turn to stone [turn to stone]
Lose my faith [lose my faith]
I'll be gone
Is not my thing
Walk away
I won't be broken again
I'm not
I'm not what you think
Someone else's dream
Nothing equals nothing
Is not my thing
Walk away
Won't let it happen again
I'm not
I'm not very smart
For what I never had
Nothing equals nothing
Lose my faith
I'll be gone
Before it happens
(repeat)
Is not my thing
Walk away
I won't be broken again
I won't
I won't fall apart
Dream away your dream
Nothing equals nothing
Lose my faith [lose my faith]
I'll be gone
Before it happens
Lose my faith [lose my faith]
I'll be gone

I think it's about losing someone you love because she couldn't be what they wanted, but she's not going to let herself become someone she's not for them. I think she was too strong for the person but she's saying she's not going to change herself and become weak...that she'll be gone before she loses her faith and "turns to stone", becomes someone she's not.
The song is clearly about a girl who accepts her defeat and decides not to change herself for the one she loves because it is just a one sided love.
This song has to be one of the best songs she has ever sang. It speaks mostly about something she has done and tries to defeat it, but tries to run from it before she loses her dignity. It speaks a lot to me and has great vocals to it also.
i agree
Madonna's greatest songs are her sad ones, and MAN is this song great!
This song is about Madonna loving someone, but the only way she feels that they will love her back is by changing herself, which she won't do. So the only thing she can do is "walk away", and try to let go.
agree with you all 100%
might be my favorite song of hers
i've always wondered if this song was to her fans...
I think this song is about dreaming and aspiring to be something, you can dream all the time but eventually whatever you have you will loose because eventually everyone of us will be "gone" sooner or later.
Maybe this song is about trying to be something you're not.
Madonna's best songs are her sad ballads-Gone-with a direct Black Crowes/Oasis influenmce-is certainly No Exception to the Ciccone/Peron/Simpson rule. Madonna Cries the sad ballad with a determined sadness. She sure knows to end her records on a grim and sad note-obviously from her mother's death at an early age-but that's exactly why Madonna is Brilliant and Immortal. Her Ladyship Madge is the best artist of her generation-That's a Fact and the Facts don't lie-Madonna is sad because she wants to live forever! We will all cry once she's gone-Madonna means a lot to all of us who love her-myself included!
