Dark Horse Lyrics

Indian summer
Abilene
You were new in town
I was nineteen
And sparks flew
They called us crazy
Behind our backs
"Romantic fools"
We just let them laugh
Because we knew
It may be a long shot
We may be lonely down the line
But love knows no reason
And I won't let them make up my mind

My money's riding on this dark horse, baby
My heart is sayin' it's the lucky one
And it's true color's gonna shine through someday
If we let this
Let this dark horse run

Stars are brighter
In a desert sky
No need to wonder
Or justify
Where this will lead
I wear your locket
Our picture's inside
Inscription says, "The joy's in the ride"
And I believe
Something so sacred
Is something worth this kind of fight
Cause love knows no patience
You can't please everyone all the time

My money's riding on this dark horse, baby
My heart is sayin' it's the lucky one
And it's true color's gonna shine through someday
If we let this
Let this dark horse run

So rare
So sweet
Together baby
We can be free

My money's riding on this dark horse, baby
My heart is sayin' it's the lucky one
And it's true color's gonna shine through someday
If we let this
Let this dark horse run

Indian summer
Abilene
You were new in town
I was nineteen

Wow, why did no one comment on this song?

I think its about giving people a chance, and love sees not an age

Long shots are always the most exciting. What fun would love or life be without taking chances when odds are against you. My bet is always on the Dark Horse. Win or lose. Enjoy the ride. That’s called life.

I think she's speaking about herself. She's the "dark horse". I recently found out that she is interracial (Trinidadian and [white] Canadian). I heard it said by her that she looks white, but is actually black. In America, the way it's been for centuries is if you have any "black blood" in your genes, then you're in reality black (regardless of your skin tone). I think she's saying that despite society's stereotypes, taboos, and small-minded views, she will believe in herself and shine through.

I love this song. I am quite curious about who Abeline is though. I have loved this song (Along with the songs Let It Rain, Birmingham, Fall from Grace, and Beautiful Goodbye) since that album came out, 27 years ago. The fact that this self-titled album came out that number of years ago makes me feel quite old. ????????

@emily11044 Those question marks are supposed to be the eye-rolling emoji and the unamused emoji. I guess emojis don't work on this site. Bummer
