I'm no expert, but I believe that this is a song about Matt Good's case of bipolar disorder.

This song is about the waning of style, especially the images or skins the author puts on. Sometimes it's good to be cool. Sometimes cool gets old. It's cyclical, people get sick of it and to a lot of people "cool" is something that they just never "get".

The "my / our" contrast helps reinforce the idea that everybody experiences superficial image as a facet of life in some way or another.

some days are short, some days are longer - maybe he battles with the day to day life and he sheds his skin to fit in and he has this plan of making his own life better because hes bored of the everyday life and he excited at the prospect of a new life. personality whathaveyou. hes excited because he has hope. so he tries this new skin he has, maybe tries to live a certain lifestyle, it doesnt work out.. like its over his head. His out of style is coming back, maybe he loves who he used to be, or the everyday trends of society are come back in style, at the end he only lives to die dumb maybe making fun of himself and (society/people) for trying to be something their not and fit in with the new styles because they always come back around.
