Promise Me This

I don't really understand the full meaning of this song, but I love it nonetheless.

I don't understand this song's meaning either. by the lyrics it seems almost religious, but when i first heard it i fell in love with it so i guess every song has a different meaning to everyone.

I think this song is about leaving someone because you feel you have to, not because you want to. It might have something to do w/ him leaving b/c of another girl and although he loves the first girl he doesn't want her to understand his real reasons for leaving and he's in so much anguish and inner turmoil about what he's done/doing that he doesn't even know himself anymore.

one of my favourite songs ever. think its really ambiguous, u gotta take it to mean wotever u want it to mean. personally i think its a post-breakup song. but then again, it prob doesn't have nething to do w/ relationships at all! but beautiful nonetheless!

I see this as a song about how hard it is to let someone in, to fall in love. How he needs her to promise him she will never take him for granted, she will always be there for him. He specifically asks her not to run away, even though they both can… I really love it in that connection – “promise me this – you will never understand me”. You won’t imagine how many times I couldn’t find the words to say just that.
