Remote Control Lyrics

Who needs remote control
From the Civic Hall
Push a button
Activate
You got to work and you're late

It's so grey in London town
With a panda car crawling around
Here it comes
Eleven o'clock
Where can we go now?

Can't make a noise
Can't get no gear
Can't make no money
Can't get out of here

Big business, it don't like you
It don't like the things you do
You got no money
So you got no power
They think you're useless
And so you are - punk!

They had a meeting in Mayfair
They got you down and
They want to keep you there
It makes them worried
Their bank accounts
That's all that matters
And you don't count

Can't make no progress
Can't get ahead
Can't stop the regress
Don't want to be dead

Look out for those rules and regulations

Who needs the Parliament
Sitting making laws all day
They're all fat and old
Queuing for the House of Lords

Repression, going to start on Tuesday
Repression, going to be a Dalek
Repression, I am a robot
Repression, I obey

Their label actually released this as a single agianst their wishes, and so they wrote and relesed "Complete Control" in retaliation to that.

shadow, you're right, but it doesn't mean they didn't like the song - the just didn't want it as a single. it's still a great song and often played by them before shows - check out the demo of it on the vanilla tapes of london calling.

A lot of this song was 'borrowed' from an old 101'ers song, although they arent credited. It was often used as a warm-up song and originally wasnt meant to be released as a single as the band felt it was not 'punk' enough (this was before they started branching off into other genres). It does sound quite out of place on the albumn. Legend has it that when they found out it had been released aginst there wishes, they drove all around the independant record shops in London begging the proprieters not to sell it.

A great slackers song - real gangsters would not complain of the situation, like Joe they would have made from it. And Joe is slightly wrong- there is always a way out.
