Police & Thieves Lyrics

Police and thieves in the streets
Oh yeah!
Scaring the nation with their guns and ammunition
Police and thieves in the street
Oh yeah!
Fighting the nation with their guns and ammunition
From genesis to revelation
The next generation will be hear me
From genesis to revelation
The next generation will be hear me
And all the crowd comes in day by day
No one stop it in anyway
And all the peacemaker turn war officer
Hear what I say

Police, police, police and thieves oh yeah
Police, police, police and thieves oh yeah
From genesis oh yeah
Police, police, police and thieves oh yeah
Scaring, fighting the nation
Shooting, shooting their guns and ammunition
Police, police, police and thieves oh yeah
Police, police, police and thieves oh yeah
Here come, here come, here come
The station is bombed
Get out get out get out you people
If you don't want to get blown up

i always felt that this song was about how there is such a similarity between police and thieves, eventhough society likes to feel differently. alot of clash songs are about ironic comparisons like this.

This is a cover of a song by reggae artist Junior Murvin

This was the first song I heard from the Clash when I first saw them on the Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder. He had the best guests. The Clash, Wendy O and the Plasmatics, etc. What a great memory.

This actually a cover song By Junior Murvin.

The lyric is not: “All the crowd comes in, day by day”,

It’s actually:

“All the CRIMES COMITTED, day by day No one stops it In any way All the peacemakers Turn war officer Hear what I say-ay...”

If you listen/see the lyrics from the Junior Murvin original, it’s plain as day, then listen to Strummer singing it, it will make sense. Strummer kinda trails off before the end of the word ‘committed’, so it seems as if he’s saying “all the CRIME COMMIT”, which DOES SOUND LIKE “All the crowd come in”...

The lyrics printed here, are not the actual lyrics, they are a combination of juniour murvin, and a live clash cut of this song. Whoever printed the lyrics needs to listen to the original clash songs to get the words right, so their can be an accurate discussion on this awesome song
