Jimmy Jazz Lyrics

Police walked in for Jimmy Jazz
I said, he ain't here, but he sure went past
Oh, you're looking for Jimmy Jazz

Satta massagana for Jimmy Dread
Cut off his ears and chop off his head
Police came looking for Jimmy Jazz, Jazz, Jazz, Jazz

So if you're gonna take a message 'cross this town
Maybe put it down somewhere over the other side
See it gets to Jimmy Jazz…

The police came in they said, “Now where’s Jimmy Jazz”
I said, “he was here, but he said he went out
Police there looking for Jimmy Jazz, jazz, jazz, jazz, yeah

Satta massagana for Jimmy Dread
Cut off his ears and they’ll chop off his head
Oh you’re looking for Jimmy Jazz, Jazz, Jazz, Jazz

What a relief!
I feel like a soldier
Look like a thief…
Police they come a lookin for Jimmy Jazz
He came here but…

Don't you bother me, not anymore
I can't take this tale, oh, no more
It's all around, Jimmy Jazz

J-a-zee zee J-a-zed zed
J-a-zed zed Jimmy Jazz
And then it sucks, he said, suck that!
So go look all around, you can try your luck, brother
And see what you found
But I guarantee that it ain't your day
Chop! Chop!

Satta Massagana means "Give thanks." A term often used in Rastafarian and Reggae jams. Possible roots from Ethiopia.

The cops looking for jimmy jazz can be understood as a methaphore for people that are just going into the mainstream punk at that time, and forgetting Jazz, that was one of the bases of rock music. Its like he is defending jazz by fooling the police. I dont know, that is my opinion.

what does sattamassagana mean?

Don't listen to felix, I think he's having one on you...it should read "sent a message"

in context it makes the most sense and Joe didn't have the best diction....

No, he's definitely not saying "sent a message." Satta Massagana means "give thanks." http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_Satta_Massagana_mean

@queenjane Satta Massagana is a Rastafarian hymn. The storyteller is saying that Jimmy Jazz is in a lot of trouble with the police, so sing this hymn for him. It’s not that deep of a song, but just another outstanding song from London Calling. The Clash are incredible!

this song is simply a "get away song". strummer, like dylan and springsteen, is fond of romantic and daring characters with wacky names, like Jimmy Jazz.

the police are on the search for jimmy jazz. i love the way strummer basically scats at the end.

i read in a magazine which was published around the time of the clash's 25th anniversary and read that Jimmy Jazz was infact a nickname for Topper Headon.
