What Will You Say Lyrics
it's been such a long time
and i was just a child then
what will you say
when you've seen my face
time feels like it's flown away
the days just pass and fade away
what will you say
when you've seen my face
it's funny now
but I just don't feel like a man
what will you say
when you've seen my face
mother dear, the world's gone cold
no one cares about love anymore
what will you say
when you seen my face
father do you hear me
do you know me
do you even care
what will you say
when you've seen my face?
my heart can't take this anymore
what will you say when
you've seen my face
mother dear, the world's gone cold
no one cares about love anymore
what will you say
when you've seen my face
father do you hear me
do you know me
do you even care
what will you say
when you've seen my face
and i was just a child then
what will you say
when you've seen my face
the days just pass and fade away
what will you say
when you've seen my face
but I just don't feel like a man
what will you say
when you've seen my face
no one cares about love anymore
what will you say
when you seen my face
do you know me
do you even care
what will you say
when you've seen my face?
what will you say when
you've seen my face
no one cares about love anymore
what will you say
when you've seen my face
do you know me
do you even care
what will you say
when you've seen my face

a song about him and his relation with his father the first time he tried to forgive his father, spiritually nevertheless as "forget her", a true song of his heart
um, jeff actually co-wrote this song with his longtime friend chris dowd- who did have his own band whose name escapes me right now('fishbone'?). Dowd actually wrote the lyric about his own relationship with his estranged father. still, an appropriate song for buckley to sing...
This is an excellent track, it sticks in your head after a while! I feel like asking that to certain people 'what will you say'?
The live version from "olympia" Cd has him singing it as a duet with a Pakistani kweli singer -I like the unexpected combination. Jeff had a thing for muslem mysticism after reading Halil Jubrans' The Prophet.
I LOOOVE this song, it's just so different, it's even played in a different tuning, and the Solo is full of pain and wow, it's awesome!
Main Riff is truly something else
like birdy said the olympia version is breath taking. its like jeffs "i never asked to be your mountain"
Yeah its an open G tuning. When Jeff plays it on his beautiful Rickenbacker, especially on the last chorus after the solo when he screams "Mother dear, the world's gone cold. Noone cares about love anymore", that has got to be one of my favourite Jeff Buckley moments. Listen to the Mystery White Boy version, it is so inspiring.
This song feels like a dream.
For those of you who don't know Buckley was raised by his mother and his stepfather and met his father only once before his death in 1975 of a drugs overdose. "What will you say when you've seen my face" the words of this song speak for themselves.
