Haven't You Heard? Lyrics
your wish is my command!
have you heard this talk about eye contact?
gonna be the downfall of this town.
first the photographs take you to the right hand.
leads you to the authority mold.
paranoia will write this world prayer
make sure that you fit in the right holes
but when you take his offer, you're done for,
done for, done for, oh-oo-oh-oh!
phantoms in pockets, we're in panic,
making order in total disgust
oh, they read a list of all who cannot stay
take you down, on the ground.
paranoia will write this world prayer
make sure that you fit in the right holes
but when you take his offer, you're done for,
done for, done for, Oh-oo-oh-oh!
make sure you learn to beware your neighbor,
bolt the doors and hire your guards.
suck your life with their virus called language,
someone told you this all would go down.
and the last thing you see is the luster,
hold the razor, goodbye to your friends.
would your underground please call the mayor,
call the neighbor, call your friends.
paranoia will write this world prayer
make sure that you fit in the right holes
but when you take his offer, you're done for,
done for, done for, Oh-oo-oh-oh!
when he first saw you, you didn't need no protection
eyes trained on your mouth, you'll learn to take him.
mmmm. it's a brand new power.
my friend had her questions right
beware your neighbor
haven't you heard, haven't you heard
that we're done for. done for. Oh.
learn to beware your neighbor
and the right mode.
haven't you heard?
haven't you heard,
that we're done for, done for?
when i count down from ten
you'll feel the lead in your lids
you've no need to resist,
and wake up refreshed Hah!

Mmm...this song does not sound very happy to me. Is this about society or organized religion perhaps? Let's discuss the meaning of this instead of stating, "His voice sounds sexy as usual, yum yumzzzzz." Any ideas?
there's a part in this song where jeff sounds sooo sexy...where he goes "mmmm...it's a band new power", he is a god....
That he is, and oh so sexy.
I love this song, he sounds so happy. I love it.
This song was a demo, but it is very promising. Who knows what it could've become.
It's still great as it is.
how hot is he to girls. is he like a 10? or what.

EXCELLENT! this could be about how people will be trained to read people through...like lie detectors and hypnosis. When one can tell someone's lying because he looks away, or looks up and to the right. He was brilliant!!!! It's almost like the state we live in now, and will live in soon. "beware your neighbor" either trust your neighbor like Loose Tounge implies or beware because he/she will sell you out, cheat you out to the government. The ending, so wonderful, it is hypnosis!!! I am so pleased with the lyrics because I've been listening to this song for so long and have been so in love, because yes he sounds sexy and intelligent...but the lyrics, my god what social commentary! I love this man! My thoughts on the song as a whole, I have not really fully understood his implications, but that's what I have so far! so great, im so pleased.
I'm also surprised this song has been overlooked...it's really my favorite Jeff Buckley song, if one can have a favorite indeed. the lyrics are the most poetic Ive heard from this album...(or not the most, but they have caught my eye) and the rhythm of the song, how it goes an octive higher right before "my friend had her questions right" ahhh, my god...i could listen to this for hours and have some bittersweet emotion because he sounds so...sexy, joyous...but it is some sort of social commentary in disguise...i mean isn't that what we all want? Social commentary wrapped in Jeff Buckley's voice? nothing better. beautiful
this song definitely has to do with not being able to trust the government and how jaded people are when it comes to their friends, not realizing that their friends won't help them take a stand against unjust authoratative figures, they'd more than likely sell you out to save themselves when faced with the fire of the truth, "and the last thing you see is the lustre, hold the razor goodbye to your friends" the lustre being the hope or what one thought they would see, the razor is the truth, this truth that cuts you away from what you thought you saw what you thought you knew, the razor, the truth that separates you from your friends....
That's what I get from this song. And mmmmm I love his sexy voice LOL. It's almost hard to listen to his songs and be serious because I fall into swoon mode. LOL
