Um. First off "I'm stuck in my ways, oh" is from the song "25" by Nina Gordon of Veruca Salt and not apart of this song.

Now that thats cleared up....This song is about and old record player. I guess louise is a fan of Victrolas or something.

Actually "I'm stuck in my ways" is from Twinstar, not 25.

When played live Louise says this is a love song for her record player.

Yep, it's a song about a love for a record player, and vinyl records in general.

Some people accused Veruca Salt of vying for indie cred at the time (and therefore a song about vinyl love was an attempt for some cred), but I never bought that. When they started out, they wanted to rock with the big boys, and made no bones about it.

People argued that since their debut LP, American Thighs, came out on an indie (Minty Fresh), and was reissued on major-label Geffen two months later, this was also a veiled attempt at indie cred. BS! They couldn't give a s**t about indie cred, and would have signed with Geffen first if they had the chance. As a side note to this, I can recall that the early "Geffen pressings" were actually Minty Fresh copies that were bought up by Geffen, and had Geffen stickers slapped on them. If this were a fake attempt at indie cred, I doubt Geffen would have gone through this trouble.

Now, if you want to know about a band that actually but out an album on an indie label to generate cred, it is the Smashing Pumpkins. Gish was put out on Caroline, which was distributed by Virgin. The execs at Virgin actually suggested that they put out Gish on Caroline to build up the band's indie cred, but promoted the hell out of it with major label money. In 1993, they moved up to Virgin proper, and by 1994 Gish was reissued on Virgin.
