Thursday's Child Lyrics
All of my life I've tried so hard
Doing my best with what I had
Nothing much happened all the same
Something about me stood apart
A whisper of hope that seemed to fail
Maybe I'm born right out of my time
Breaking my life in two
(Throw me tomorrow..oh,oh)
Now that I've really got a chance
(Throw me tomorrow..oh,oh)
Everything's falling into place
(Throw me tomorrow..oh,oh)
Seeing my past to let it go
(Throw me tomorrow..oh,oh)
Only for you I don't regret
That I was Thursday's Child
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday born I was
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday born I was
Sometimes I cried my heart to sleep
Shuffling days and lonesome nights
Sometimes my courage fell to my feet
Lucky old sun is in my sky
Nothing prepared me for your smile
Lighting the darkness of my soul
Innocence in your arms
(Throw me tomorrow..oh,oh)
Now that I've really got a chance
(Throw me tomorrow..oh,oh)
Everything's falling into place
(Throw me tomorrow..oh,oh)
Seeing my past to let it go
(Yeah, throw me tomorrow..oh,oh)
Only for you I don't regret
That I was Thursday's Child
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday born I was Thursday's Child

It seems to me that this song is about a person, maybe himself, saying that he always felt slightly out of place. He was a person with gifts and potential who never quite got off the ground, breaking his life in two (into the man he had potential to be , and the man he actually became), he feels like he was born in the wrong time, etc. Then, he speaks of something that gives him hope. A reason that he no longer regrets his troubled life. He says "throw me tomorrow", as if tomorrow is a life preserver thrown to rescue a drowning man. For all of the hardships of his life, comparing himself to a Thursday's Child, he is now glad to be here because of his love, (the girl). Also I think there is a component that speaks to age as he looks in the mirror. Yeah, he's getting old, but that is the past and he has new life now with his love. Also, it may be that his song playing on the radio represents the success he's had in this life, but he knows it's really superficial (Mirror symbolizes this), and it doesn't satisfy him in a deeper way like the love he has with his girl, who is the focus of the video.
Just wanted to add the nursery rhyme
Monday's child is fair of face. Tuesday's child is full of grace. Wednesday's child is full of woe. Thursday's child has far to go. Friday's child is loving and giving. Saturday's child works hard for a living, But the child who is born on the Sabbath Day Is bonny and blithe and good and gay.
Btw, I think bowie's born a wednesday. But in a way it would make sense, when he says: monday, tuesday, wednesday - born i was, thursday's child. Or wednesday - born, i was thursday's child.
Sorry if this has been said or the facts are wrong, haven't got time to check it right now.

@christina201288 David Bowie was indeed born on a Wednesday.

Well, the old Scottish superstition was that "Thursday's child has far to go" and maybe he's saying that because he was that way that the girl fell in love with him, therefore for her he doesn't regret "having far to go". i dunno, i suck at this interpreation shit. :)
You really have to see the video clip for this to make sense. he's in a motel room and looking in a mirror and Reminiscing on his life and what could have been.
btw there's a woman in the video, possibly his wife, presumably this was the person he was declaring his love for.
@TheTan I've seen the video and there are two women, an older rather raddled one and a younger fresher one he seems in love with. The older one is taking pills. The patent details are subverted to fit the narrative that's acceptable namely he was happily married to Iman. Innocence in your arms is obviously a new born baby and this was still 1999, b4 Lexie was born. I happen to know Marianne had a child by him end '98 beg 99. See it all fits!. I actually am Thursday's child. I don't mean exclusively in the song...

I actually am Thursday's child. I don't mean exclusively in the song but I was actually born on Thurs which Bowie of course knew so he used it. He seemed to be lamenting the fact he felt so akin with me but we were never going anywhere together and certainly I'd never had any career success or success of any kind in the eyes of the world.
one of (if not) my favorites.
i know that bowie love to pay homage to the velvet underground and the title always makes me think of the line from all tomorrow's parties " And what costume shall the poor girl wear To all tomorrow's parties For Thursday's child is Sunday's clown For whom none will go mourning". im just throwing this out there to see if anyone else had any direction with it
"Thursday's Child" does indeed mean "One that will go far". In this song, he reflects on his entire career, and his mistakes. He's telling himself (in the video, he tells a younger-looking Bowie he sees in his reflection) that no matter the mistakes he's made in his career, he's gone far, and he doesn't regret it.
Does anyone know what he means with the phrase "Only for you I don't regret That I was Thursday's Child "...is it kind of a declaration of love ? - but to whom ?
I think of that particular lyric as meaning that he still has a lot to learn, or a sort of re-birth into a new, different life.
This reminds me of my ex-girlfriend. We met on a group that used to meet on Thursdays, and also she was born on a Thursday. We used to play Omikron: The Nomad Soul together, just to get to this song. I bought the song but I threw it away when we split. I remember it fondly nowadays, though.
