Beautiful Goodbye Lyrics
Fed up with my destiny
And this place of no return
Think I'll take another day
And slowly watch it burn
It doesn't really matter how the time goes by
Cause I still remember you and I
And that beautiful goodbye
We staggered through these empty streets
Laughing arm in arm
The night had made a mess of me
Your confession kept me warm
And I don't really miss you, I just need to know
Do you ever think of you and I
And that beautiful goodbye
When I see you now
I wonder how
I could've watched you walk away
If I let you down
Please forgive me now
For that beautiful goodbye
In these days of no regrets
I keep mine to myself
And all the things we never said
I can say for someone else
Cause nothing lasts forever, but we always try
And I just can't help but wonder why
We let it pass us by
When I see you now
I wonder how
I could've watched you walk away
If I let you down
Please forgive me now
For that beautiful goodbye
Baby what can I do
Oh, to get through to you
And sometimes I cry
It's a fools lullaby
And sometimes I cry
I'm dying inside
And this place of no return
Think I'll take another day
And slowly watch it burn
It doesn't really matter how the time goes by
Cause I still remember you and I
And that beautiful goodbye
Laughing arm in arm
The night had made a mess of me
Your confession kept me warm
And I don't really miss you, I just need to know
Do you ever think of you and I

To me, this song is talking about a failed relationship that when the person whose point of view it is from, looks back, they regret the relationship ending, even though there probably wasn't anything they could have done to save it.

When I was younger, I remember when that first chord of the outro kicked in after six seconds of silence... it scared the shit out of me.
This song reflects how I felt after my gf broke up with me.
This song is nostalgic, it has a very wistful sound. I adore it, it's just lovely.
This song reminds me of my ex-boyfriend/ex-best friend. We ended on not so great terms, and now are seeing each other around. It stings to think of how things were great one second, and then we had to let it all go. Most of Amanda Marshall's songs remind me of this.
I agree with the above.
This song makes me want to sit back with a glass of wine and reminisce.
The way I see it, she is resigned. She still remembers and misses him but she knows everything is lost and is not asking to have it back. I agree, it is nostalgic.

@Kate14 she stated she doesn't miss him but by the time the song reaches fever pitch the facade has crumbled. She is a prisoner of the past - "It doesn't really matter how the time goes by cause I still remember you and I".... she needs to know if he ever thinks of her and their time together... can't help but wonder why they let it all go. @Kate14, it's over. As much as she hates to admit it, it's over. And it will never be the same. She will never claim that same love again. Not with him. Not ever. Someone else holds a different torch to the same flame. She just has to light the spark.
