This is about regret and how he will always love this woman and he's going to tell her soon. I get the feeling he might not get round to it though and is left regretting not telling her, it's just how he says 'someday' that gives me that feeling.
This is one of my fav songs on Gold, I can really relate to the lyrics of this song having just been through a similar situation with a girl. I think it's about how he let this girl get away from him, and now it's too late to get her back now that she has kids. He lost his love becuase he didn't tell her how he felt, but he still has the memories and still holds on to the idea of getting her back someday, somehow.

He's just kidding himself with all this talk. He's making outlandish promises to himself. I think he knows he won't be able to carry through with any of this stuff.
I think its about Carrie. She died, and now everything they planned won't ever happen. Even so, he won't ever stop loving her. Its so optimistic on the surface, but so sad underneath.
"i'll never know just how bad it hurt or what i did" He didn't just not let her know how we felt, they were together at one stage in their lives and he wronged her and now he's full of regret and wants her back and wishes they were "still in [her] room in [her] bed and [she] were holding [him]."
