Goodnight, Hollywood Blvd. Lyrics
it's happening baby
they're putting up the chairs
taking the money
and all we can do is pray,
pray for tomorrow
so close your eyes
so close your mouth
and do this all in time to the music
that screams like a child in the back of your mind
in a clown's saloon
so goodnight hollywood blvd, goodnight,
see you soon
goodnight hollywood blvd, see you sometime
yeah, right
run away, baby
back to your lonely house
you wanted the honey
but you were only just stinging yourself
it's hard to watch
so i close my eyes eyes
and i close my mouth
and i do this all in time to the music
that dances like fools set on fire
flailing their arms in a room full of whores
so goodnight hollywood blvd, goodnight,
see you soon
goodnight hollywood blvd, goodnight, see you sometime
see you sometime.
yeah, right.

Perhaps something to do with his then relationship with Wynona Ryder? Beautiful melody and chord structure as well as arrangement. I took the "yeah right" to be a response to "see you sometime", as if the person doesn't believe the "see ya sometime" is sincere.
The true beauty of great music and lyrics is that it can mean whatever your unconscious projects onto the song. He does have a way with lyrics, does Ryan Adams.
this is song is PERFECT.
sorry that's all i had to say.
Closing time at a bar. At the end of the night everyone is desperately trying to make conversation so they don't have to go home alone. Based on the sarcasm of "yeah, right" I'd have to say this song could be about Ryan realizing this lifestyle is pathetic. Or... I like to think it's about a girl he used to know who's desperately trying to meet someone new by going to bars. The whole "run away baby" verse really convinces me.
Reminds me of Punter's Pub
I enjoy this song, I listened to it on repeat for quite a while when I was driving to Florida. Ryan is truly wonderful
braf
I love this song. Ryan's voice is amazing as always and the music is lovely. Everything just goes so perfectly together.
Indeed. It's PERFECT. It's one of the best songs ever in my opinion.
Heh, the first time I heard this song was while I was flipping through TV channels and stopped on either AMC or TCM...they were doing a tribute to all of the actors who'd died the past year...so this song reminds me of Marlon Brando and Vivian Leigh. :|
goodnight hollywood blvd. and goodmorning best song to end the best album of all time.
