I really really like this song but i dont really know what its about. i cant think of any clear ideas on its meanings, but its a great song. if anybody has any ideas help me out, thanks
i love splender and this was always my favorite song by them...i think its about not letting anyone hold you back from acheving your goals...idk i could be wrong, but i always get this feeling when i hear the song that im not alone in the world....go figure...btw- splenders new song rocks! check it out on their site (www.splender.com) their new album is due out Aug. 20th the site says...yippie!
i see this song as him breaking up with someone because he feels like she is holding him back from the things he wants to do.. and that he would love life if he was on his own doing the things he wants to do. and when he says hes a spaceboy. i think he just means im someone that wants to be free and live life to its fullest.. but i could be wrong! :-P
"Stoned Forever" - "I'm so high" ... Yeah, I can't find any meanings either.
I'm fairly certain that Waymon said this song is about Bowie, one of his musical idols. Space Boy would be a pretty clear reference to "Space Oddity" or the whole Ziggy Stardust personae. I think it's his take on how Bowie felt during his heyday, during which he felt so removed from the world due to his fame and drug overuse. He's saying that he'd rather spend his life engroseed in his music and art than dealing with people and the world around him.
I could be totally off, but I'm just going to say what it means to me. I'm not saying that this is Splender's original meaning. I think that when he says, "and I'd love if I never returned to the ground," it's like saying "I don't want to go back to reality. I'm happy being in my own little world where I feel 'so high.'" I think it's just about escaping the world - "well it won't be the first or the last time the world passes by." You don't care that the world and reality is passing you by, you don't want to be part of it because it just hurts too much. It could be about a relationship, but to me it's more about life in general. Life is "holding you down" and keeping you from being happy. For me, this is one of the ultimate "I feel like crap" songs, as is pretty much all of the Halfway Down the Sky CD.
