I Think God Can Explain Lyrics
There's a lot of things I understand
And there's a lot of things
I don't want to know
But you're the only face I recognize
It's so damn sweet of you
To look me in the eyes
Chrous:
It's all right, I'm O.K.
I think God can explain
I believe I'm the same
I get carried away
It's all right, I'm O.K.
I think God can explain
I'm relieved, I'm relaxed
I'll get over it yet
The scent of vaseline
In the summertime
The feel of an icecube
Melting over time
The world seems bigger than both of us
Yet it seems so small
When I begin to cry
Chorus
I'm so much better than you guessed
I'm so much bigger than you guessed
I'm so much brighter than you guessed
Chorus (last line changed to:)
I'll get off of your back
I think God can explain
I think God can explain
I think God can explain
And there's a lot of things
I don't want to know
But you're the only face I recognize
It's so damn sweet of you
To look me in the eyes
It's all right, I'm O.K.
I think God can explain
I believe I'm the same
I get carried away
It's all right, I'm O.K.
I think God can explain
I'm relieved, I'm relaxed
I'll get over it yet
In the summertime
The feel of an icecube
Melting over time
The world seems bigger than both of us
Yet it seems so small
When I begin to cry
I'm so much bigger than you guessed
I'm so much brighter than you guessed
I'll get off of your back
I think God can explain

Upon further review of the lyrics of this song, this song seems to be an emotional outcry from a person who's recently experienced the cruelty of society's negative perceptions on 'people' who engage in homosexual relationships. The artist takes a kind of sarcastic position in saying that, "I believe I'm the same, I get carried away ..." in the chorus. In Verse 1 the artist seems to be talking to, and admiring his partner's inner fortitude to stand with him in the relationship. In Verse 2, the artist seems to muse about some of the moments he and his partner may have shared together, and concludes that the world is bigger than the two of them. The song is Beautiful. I can't relate to the artist directly, because I am not a homosexual, but the world can be a cruel place when dealing with sensitive social issues and opinions, so in that respect, I believe most of us can relate ....
I have always suspected, and am fairly convinced at this point, that this song is actually about a young gay man who has experienced a physical relationship, and is coming to terms with the fact that he's gay, in a world where there is still a huge stigma associated with that. think the song is about a person who was raised in the Christian faith, and perhaps in a way where being gay is not accepted, and has to come to a place where they can accept what they know to be true, despite the fact that this is often a painful transition to go through. In particular, the thing that always struck me about the lyrics is the verse where it seems to be about two lovers spending time together, and yet there's "the scent of vasoline in the summertime." I don't want to be too specific, but there's a particular sexual practice that typically involves the use of that product. Waymon Boone has never chosen to get into specifics of his sexual orientation to my knowledge, but now that he's transitioned to being a director, he's been identified at least in one Anthology where he directed an episode, as being one of a group of "queer men of color" in the gay press. Further evidence of this, is in his most recent project, which also involves two men who enter into a gay relationship. I have long believed that the song is basically saying: This is how I was made, and I'm ok with it. God made me this way, and he must have had a reason for that, and someday, it will all be explained to me. It's a person who was raised in a religious background, has a strong connection to their religion, but is still a gay person.
i dig this song a whole lot. a kid at my school did a cover of it. it was very nice. okay, now i'm just rambling.
this is a really cool song, splender really deserved more play than they got oh well as is the case with so many great bands out there.
If they played it more, they wold lose some of their fans though, since these days alot of people think that a song is ruined when its played on the radio.
this is a wonderful song, which i dedicate to my beautiful girlfriend carol..honey i love u so much..why?..i think God can explain!
uhh, dariofoo -- this song is clearly about a guy who likes a girl who doesn't like him back, so he's saying that he accepts this and "will get over it yet" and "get off of [her] back" not exactly the song i would dedicate to my girlfriend...
i stand corrected,dude..but hey,it's still a great song right?..take a chill pill,man..hehe
this is one of my favorite songs and i completely agree with infix as to the meaning of the song. does anyone know when "to whom it may concern" comes out?
Hurts to want someone who doesn't feel the same...such a terrible feeling, clearly can eat away at you if you stand in it long enough. This group and song deserve more attention.
