Golden Lights Lyrics
Golden lights displaying your name
Golden lights it's a terrible shame
But oh my darling
WHY DID YOU CHANGE ?
Boy in a million, idol, a big star
I didn't tell you how great you were
I didn't grovel and scream
And rip your brand new jacket at the seams
You made a record, they liked your singing
All of a sudden the phone stops ringing
Ah ... I never thought that you would let
The glory make you forget
Golden lights displaying your name
Golden lights it's a terrible shame
But oh my darling
WHY DID YOU CHANGE ?
Top ten idol, king of your age
Who do you turn to when you're backstage ?
Don't you remember you once knew a girl
You loved her more than the world
Is life always like this, brother ?
Good for one side but bad for another
I must put you behind me tonight
'Cause you belong to the lights
Those golden lights displaying your name
Golden lights it's a terrible shame
But oh my darling
WHY DID YOU CHANGE ?
Oh, oh my darling
WHY ?
WHY DID YOU CHANGE ?
Oh ...
Golden lights it's a terrible shame
But oh my darling
WHY DID YOU CHANGE ?
I didn't tell you how great you were
I didn't grovel and scream
And rip your brand new jacket at the seams
All of a sudden the phone stops ringing
Ah ... I never thought that you would let
The glory make you forget
Golden lights it's a terrible shame
But oh my darling
WHY DID YOU CHANGE ?
Who do you turn to when you're backstage ?
Don't you remember you once knew a girl
You loved her more than the world
Good for one side but bad for another
I must put you behind me tonight
'Cause you belong to the lights
Golden lights it's a terrible shame
But oh my darling
WHY DID YOU CHANGE ?

why do all smiths fans hate this song?! i know it doesn't sound like anything else they do, but its still a good song.
lyrically, its what u would expect from the morrissey, just simpler... and forgive me if i'm wrong, but this is a cover of a female artists 60's song.... Morrissey's idols were women like Sandy Shaw etc... most bands have an album, of which u lyk to listen to about half the songs.... to see people calling this song shit just because it isn't smith lyk is pathetic,
besides, s'not to bad a song anyway; rounds off 'the world won't listen' rather nicely and with a lovely ironic twist to the whole album
What the hell man, why are people hating on this song. I thought it was pretty cool.
i dont get why so many ppl hate this song, i actually like it quite a bit. who cares if it doesnt sound like their usual stuff?? its still a good song <3 for some reason i feel this sort of bizarre sense of familiarity and connection to the lyrics, even tho ive never gone thru anything like it
It's a cover of a song by Twinkle. Its about how people change when they become famous.
Yeah, so many fans hate this song...I kinda love it, but i love cheesy/dreamy bubblegum shit anyway.
I always pictured this song being about Elvis, as I'm sure Morrissey has a huge Elvis attraction. That is until I learned it was a cover.
In any case it seems more to me not how people change when they become famous, but how they change AFTER they become famous, and start sucking (<i>All of a sudden the phone stops ringing</i>).
Case in point: Elvis.
I think Morrissey recorded this song to piss off smiths fans that think he should be serious all the time. It's a bad song, but kind of fun. I think that's the point.
gold lights blue lights pink lights red lights christms tree lights wooohoooo
I kno Morrissey and Marr said that this was the Smiths worst song, but I think they produced it to show that their human too, they can fuck up, their not perfect, thou some might think so.....
This song is nice Idk why people hating
