'T'ain't No Sin Lyrics

When you hear sweet syncopation
And the music softly moans,
'T'ain't no sin to take off your skin
And dance around in your bones.

When it gets too hot for comfort
And you can't get an ice cream cone,
'T'ain't no sin to take off your skin
And dance around your bones.

Just like those bamboo babies
Down in the South Sea tropic zone,
'T'ain't no sin to take off your skin
And dance around your bones.

This is an old song, isn't it? I can remember it when I was a kid, & I thought it was creepy then. It's even creepier here, sung deadpan by novelist William Burroughs. How did Waits get him involved in this project? 'The Black Rider' album is about a young man who kills his beloved while showing off with magic bullets. Burroughs famously shot his wife in the head by accident & killed her - they were playing William Tell. As you do.

1929...where did you here it as a kid?

There's a little burst of melody at the beginning of this song that sounds the same as Darth Vader's Theme from the Star Wars film soundtrack. Whether this is co-incidence or not I can't be sure but fits perfectly with this taunting song from the Devil as our hero; Wilhelm is lost in the woods.
