Motherly Love Lyrics
Motherly love
Motherly love
Forget about
The brotherly and other--ly love
Motherly love
Is just the thing for you
You know your Mothers' gonna love ya
Till ya don't know what to do
The Mothers got love
That'll drive ya mad
They're ravin' 'bout the way we do
No need to feel lonely . . .
No need to feel sad,
If we ever get a hold on you
What you need is . . .
Motherly love
(Come on, get it now)
Motherly love
Forget about
The brotherly and other--ly love
Motherly love
Is just the thing for you
You know your Mothers' gonna love ya
Till ya don't know what to do
Nature's been good
To this here band
Don't ever think we're shy
Send us up some little groupies
And we'll take their hands
And rock 'em till they sweat and cry
What you need is . . .
Motherly love
(Get it now)
Motherly love
Forget about
The brotherly and other--ly love
Motherly love
Is just the thing for you
You know your Mothers' gonna love ya
Till ya don't know what to do
We can love ya
Till ya have a heart attack
You'd best believe that's true
We'll bite your neck
And scratch your back
Till you don't know what to do
What you need is . . .
Motherly love
Motherly love
Forget about
The brotherly and other--ly love
Motherly love
Is just the thing for you
You know your Mothers' gonna love ya
Till ya don't know what to do
You know I've got a little motherly love for you baby, yeah
You know I've got a little motherly love for you honey, yeah
You know it doesn't bother me at all
That you're only eighteen years old
'Cause I got a little motherly love for you baby
Motherly love
Forget about
The brotherly and other--ly love
Is just the thing for you

This song is about fucking groupies. This is back when Frank still called his band the mothers of invention, get it motherly love, eh eh. Great fucking song
Its really subtle too... I love how he conceals the meaning of the song and keeps it ambigous until the third verse or so... very clever...
hah i didnt even think of the groupies thing. i just assumed it was about the Mothers of Invention.
I think the best part about this song is when he goes into the chorus after the second verse, the way he says "...get it now", as if he's like HA HA CHECK OUT MY EUPHEMISM
I love Frank Zappa.
that darned euphemism treadmill...! as unstoppable as samsara. conscientious like the proverbial TSA inspector.
As for interpretations of the song currently under discussion, from the cleverly-titled Freak Out! LP. I particularly appreciate:
"Nature's been good to this here band"
(that the band has all male members is an issue not ever likely even to, uh, reach the floor. for debate, I mean. specifically: none of the dudes perform-ing would possess fewer than, let's say...eight inches?)
and:
"Don't ever think we're shy; send us up some..."
--> they're not the slightest bit standoffish. one could presume they'd provide EXtra-special close attention to any, uh listeners with a good pair of hey headphones yeah that's it
