Michael Jordan Lyrics

My shirt, my hat, my books
A trip to the zoo
My couch, remote, a large coke yea
I'd get on my knees, my God
If I could

I would give anything
I would give anything
I would give anything
I would give anything
I would give...
To be you

My job, my car, my cash
My house on the hill
My piano I'd burn to ashes (yea)
I'd get on my knees, my God
If I could

I would give anything
I would give anything
I would give anything
I would give anything
I would give...
To be you

My voice, my worm, my wife
A first born or two
I'd give the knife, my Mike if just
Cut me at the knees
My God, my Jordan

I would give anything
I would give anything
I would give anything
I would give anything
I would give anything
I would give to
Be
You

This song creeped me out when I first heard it. But I know the feeling...wanting aomething more than anything else in the world.

Every time I hear this song I will always think of this guy I met when I went to Florida for spring break. He was really gorgeous, and very nice....Jordan was his name. I know this song is really about Michael Jordan, but I think it's got a nice, slow groove...it's good.

I agree with you cosmic, this song definetly creeped me out when i first heard it was well, its like an obsession, but once i really really listened to it, it made perfect sense. Doing anything for something you really want.

yeah, this song creeped me out too... it reminds me of a friend of mine who gets super obsessed with celebrities... i really worry about her... perhaps i should play her that song

I think this song is actually the opposite of "Superman". "Superman" is a song from the celebrity's point of view -- reminding you that they are just people (like everyone else). This song is from the point of view of an obsessive fan, who would sacrifice anything to BE that person. While the song is written to Michael Jordan, it's obvious it could be about anyone who is worshiped obsessively, including possibly the singer himself, or rock stars in general. I think the point here is to show how dangerous it is for us to define our celebrities as symbols. Jordan is the symbol of the ultimate success in your chosen field. We become less human when we worship other people as though they themselves were beyond.

i think the song speaks for itself. if i recall correctly, John Ondrasik is a big sports fan (hence Five For Fighting refering to hockey). i think the song is about himself wanting to be a successful athlete more than a musician, even though he enjoys being one. the thing that's holding him back is he is a much better musician than an athlete. that's why he'd give up his voice, he'd burn his piano, etc. also, if he gave up all the materials of value (car, cash) he would be able to get all that back anyway, because he'd be rich.

i also like the theory of it being about obsessive fans. i love how throughout the song, he uses the phrase "my God," but the last time he says it, he says "my God" and then a second name, "my Jordan." God has been replaced by Micahel. very creepy feel with an artistic touch. love it.
