He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss) Lyrics

He hit me and it felt like a kiss
He hit me but it didn't hurt me
He couldn't stand to hear me say
That I'd been with someone new
And when I told him I had been untrue
He hit me and it felt like a kiss
He hit me and I knew he loved me
Cause if he didn't care for me
I could have never made him mad
He hit me and I was glad
Baby won't you stay...
He hit me and it felt like a kiss
He hit me and I knew I loved him
Cause when he took me in his arms
With all the tenderness there is
He hit me and he made me feel
Baby won't you stay...

For fucks sake people. Please let Kurt Cobain rest in peace. You know what? I can tell you the ONLY person who knows how Kurt died, that person could never tell anyone. And you want to know why? Because that person is dead and that person is Kurt Cobain himself. Please, please just drop it and give Kurt a little bit of respect.

And don't ever ugh Kurt or I will personally slash your face with a razor blade.

Hole did not write this song! It was written by Phil Spector and Carol King for The Crystals (a girl group in the '50s). And Squeak_goes_mouse I could argue all day with you if I wanted to but idiots like you aren't worth my time. So just shut the fuck up already!!

  1. Would the Kurt Cobain conspiracy theorists please take their discussions to an appropriate forum? Seriously.

  2. xpsychicheartsx is right, this song was co-written by Carole King, but it was never performed by her. It was done by a band called the Crystals, and King got the inspiration to write it after one of the members of the Crystals came in with a black eye from her boyfriend. She expressed pretty much the sentiment that was in the song, and so King actually intended it as a satire originally, saying "This is not a healthy perspective, but it is one that needs to be examined because some people really think this way." Anyway I really like this song, and if you get a chance to listen to the Crystals' version, that one's quite catchy, too. And sort of more haunting than Hole's because you know from the beginning ("Nice feminist anthem!") that Courtney is singing it ironically.

It was actually written by Gerry Goff and Carole King. She wrote it when she found out that Little Eva's boyfriend hit her. Carole King asked her why she didn't leave him and she responded that he did it because he loved her so much. I think it's just her (Carole King's) observation of an abusive relationship. I don't really think the song is sick, just the concept it's describing; that someone can still love a person who hurts them like that. It wasn't intended to be encouraging spousal abuse but that's how some people took it.

one scenario is that this is about a girl that's been abused all her life and knows nothing else. when she cheated on her boyfriend and he hit her, she took him back because she feels that if she could hurt him then he must care.

Vintage Courtney (she met several bf's in the punk scene by hitting them, or having them hit her... something like that happened with (ugh) Kurt...)

Hmm, Courtney's biographer (in "A most unauthorized biography") has nothing nice to say about her AT ALL, but yet, after examining & re-examining the evidence, AND interviewing several parties, many of whom didn't like her AT ALL, the author never concluded that she even MAY have done it. She never even entertained the theory, other than to acknowledge what was said and state the facts. Hmm, I wonder if YOU know better than HER, mourning... Esp. given that neither of you like Courtney at all (not that I'd be able to deal with her either, but you've got to respect the her determination-- I wish I had it--I mean, she made herself a star after being born ugly-- how many women can say that?!) Oh, by the way, I really hope you somehow end up in a convo with my friend, who likes to do a mock-depressive outburst in the midst of a lighthearted chat by saying "OMG, KURT'S REALLY DEAD!!" In other words, enjoy his music, etc, but GET OVER IT-- there's not a damn thing you can do.
