Christie Road Lyrics

Staring out of my window
Watching the cars go rolling by
My friends are gone
I've got nothing to do
So I sit here patiently
Watching the clock tick so slowly
Gotta get away
Or my brains will explode

Give me something to do to kill some time
Take me to that place that I call home
Take away the strains of being lonely
Take me to the tracks at Christie Road

See the hills from afar
Standing on my beat up car
The sun went down and the night fills the sky
Now I feel like me once again
As the train comes rolling in
Smoked my boredom gone
Slapped my brains up so high

Give me something to do to kill some time
Take me to that place that I call home
Take away the strains of being lonely
Take me to the tracks at Christie Road

Mother stay out of my way of that place we go
We'll always seem to find our way to Christie Road

Mother stay out of my way of that place we go
We'll always seem to find our way to Christie Road

If there's one thing that I need
That makes me feel complete
So I go to Christie Road
It's home...

personally, i think you guys are getting a little too deep. billie joe said that it was just the place that he and his friends went to smoke pot.

i agree solemite. iv got this bootleg album burnout blast, recorded at farifax high school in cali, right before they play this, billie joe says something along the lines of " this song is about being a loser in the suberbs." and if you really listin to the song (on this cd anyways) at the end when he says "its home" you can hear mike saying "get stoned" maybe i listend to that song high a few to many times.

yes, christie road is where they would smoke weed when they were in high school, and with all the shit happening in Billie Joe's life, so he just said fuck it let's go get high. That's what this song means

Yes! I think the fast part at the end represent this is disfora/ being able to go on with a focused disforia, he had after smoking pot, being addicted to it.

I love this too... Who wouldn't? New Green Day is not bad at all, but the old is so... simple and easy to listen to. No hidden messages, no political references, no bullshit just music. just music about normal everyday stuff, that everyone can relate to. Gotta love it.

I'm surprised no one has commented on this; this is one of green day's greatest in my opinion. Of course, I can't speak for anyone, but to me it always means that dissatisfaction with life, that numbingly boring dull suburbia, and the desire for something more exciting, an escape (in the song its pretty obvious what it is). You end up wrapped up in your escape and find it hard to leave. I have no idea why, but it makes me think of a 17 year old, no one in particular, but a 17 year old in that scenario.

Hey, BondGirl007, I totally agree. I'd have to say this is easily my favorite Green Day song. I think you're right that it's about boredom and suburban life. I always saw it as being kind of a precursor to "Longview" where this boredom's finally driven him crazy. That and I think the chorus is about those escapes becoming overused and becoming just as boring as his everyday life.

I always figured it was about a place of comfort, but the above comments make complete sense. I wish song meanings were included in CD cases, but then again the beauty of music is interpreting it for your own life.

This song definately combines the amazing aspects of a ballad and punk song together in one. The lyrics help make that transition too. In the beginning half of the song, it's about boredom, having no where exciting to go and wanting to go to "Christie Road" (which I suspect is a metaphor for some kind of place BJ wants to go to?) and then as soon as the song picks up some speed and intensity, BJ is now saying "If there's one thing that I need That makes me feel complete So I go to Christie Road It's home..." as if he made it to the place he wanted to go to. Did that make sense? Anyways, it's one of Green Day's greatest songs and is even more incredible live!

Can someone tell me why NOTHING from Kerplunk! was on the International Superhits CD? Christie Road...One for the Razorbacks, 2000 Lightyears Away...the list goes on.

Copyrights. That's why.
