Junk Lyrics
Motorcars, handlebars
Bicycles for two
Broken hearted jubilee
Parachutes, army boots
Sleeping bags for two
Sentimental jamboree
Buy buy says the sign in the shop window
Why why says the junk in the yard
Candlesticks, building bricks
Something old and new
Memories for you and me
Buy buy says the sign in the shop window
Why why says the junk in the yard
Bicycles for two
Broken hearted jubilee
Sleeping bags for two
Sentimental jamboree
Why why says the junk in the yard
Something old and new
Memories for you and me
Why why says the junk in the yard

Wow, I never realized the sign in the shop window said "Buy buy". Although it never really made sense, I always thought it said "Bye bye". Like, saying goodbye to the junk that wasn't needed anymore. For some reason I've always thought of this as a break-up song. I saw the junk in the yard as the person being dumped, and the shop as being the person doing the dumping. And the sign in the window says "Bye bye", and the junk just goes "Why?". I don't know, it's just the way I've always thought of it. But now that it's clear that the sign actually says "Buy buy", that really opens up for some interesting interpretation!
This song in my opinion is about all material things, how they are meaningless, and after we all die they go to waste, or maybe to sell them in a yard sale. "Candlesticks, Building Bricks Some Old and New Memories for You and Me " Maybe they only remain in our memory.
wow does nobody listen to mccartney. best song, shows why he is the best melody writer of all time.
About John? I don't see it. It's a beautifully sad song with LOTS of imagery. Yes, it does sound like a yard sale, or an abandoned antique shop. I think it's about forgotten things from the past - that's why it's sad.
"It's about JOHNN"
Well, that's a really John-way of thinking. He deemed every other McCartney solo song as being about him with near-paranoid zeal.

LOL That's true.
Why buy new stuff when there's nothing wrong with the old stuff?
short and sweet... i have been boarder line obsessed with this song for years. I love Paul.
This is simply a breakup song. Paul goes over the things shared by the couple (cars, bikes, things that they only would understand the sentimental meaning of) and how they purchased them together ("Buy! Buy!...") and now that they've broken up, they're just junk in the yard, either tossed away, or more likely for sale ("Why? Why?...").
such a beautiful song.
