Little Trouble Girl Lyrics

[Thurston]

Ready? Go, 1,2,3,4

[Kim Deal] [Kim Gordon]

If you want me to
I will be the one
that is always good
and you'll love me too
but you'll never know
what I feel inside
that I'm really bad
little trouble girl
remember mother?
we were close
very, very close
sha la la you taught me how to fit it good
sha la la flow down life you understood
sha la la curl my hair and eye lash
sha la la hitch my cheeks and do my lips
sha la la swing my hips just like you
sha la la smile and behave
sha la la a circle of perfection, it's what you gave
sha la la then one day I met a guy
he stole my heart, no alibi
sha la la he said: "Romance is a ticket to paradise"
sha la la momma, I'm not too young to try
sha la la we kissed, we hugged, we were close
very, very close
sha la la we danced in the sand
and the water rose - higher and higher
sha la la until I found myself floating - in the sky
I'm sorry mother, I'd rather fight
than have to lie
if you want me to
I will be the one
that is always good
and you'll love me too
but you'll never know
what I feel inside
that I'm really bad
little trouble girl
little trouble girl (what you doin'?)
little trouble girl cross my heart and hope to die,
little trouble girl I can not tell a lie
little trouble girl ah-hu
little trouble girl ah-hu
little trouble girl ah-hu
little trouble girl ah-hu
little trouble girl ah-hu
little trouble girl ah-hu
little trouble girl ah-hu
little trouble girl ah-hu

I think I agree with peace frog. it is pretty obvious it is about a girl remembering about her relationship about her mother, and how her mother tried to prepare her for "womanhood", or rather, what her mother envisioned her the daughter's life as a woman. there a few lines in the lyrics that suggest the daughter eventually broke with this conception, and perhaps with the mother aswell.

I think the daughter sees this way of being a woman, with curly hair and lashes, lips done up etc as being fake, and not her true self. maybe this is relfected by the title and chorus of the song "little trouble girl" and "but you'll never know, what I feel inside, that I'm Really bad". maybe suggesting what the mother envisioned for the daughter is not in line with her personality at all.

when she met the man, she was set free "floating in the sky". the line "rather fight than have to lie" could mean the girl would rather stand up and be herself, even if it means problems in her relationships, rather than being a submissive woman like her mother encouraged her to become.

thats my take anyhow.

@alluringoptics I sincerely have to agree with you on this. I feel like it is talking about a girl who would rather be called a rebel or brat than be submissive. Or as Kurt Cobain put it "I'd rather be hated for who I am than liked for who I am not." The little girl at the beginning is definitely Kim. I think the little girl represents her because she feels like an alien because she is not submissive or that is how she feels her mother treat her. I think she put Kim Deal in this song because Kim is...

I think it's about a woman who taught her daughter to be a sterotypical housewife. Always putting on make-up and looking pretty for men. Then, she fell in love with a guy and the mother-daughter relationship faded away. Such an amzing song. "Washing Machine" is SY's best.

whatever the idea, it's sung in a way so that it sounds like the narrator has a big secret... creepy really

that line "romance is a ticket to paradise" it gets stuck in my head and i love it! but whats with kim gordon alway talking about her mother? not only in this song but in others too like tunic song for karen ...etc

I use to sing this song changing the verse "we were close; very, very close" for "we were close; very, f****in close" just for the kick of it... kind of ads a little despise for the mother.

To me, it sings to the mother saying "you didn't prepare me for the plasures of the flesh", no warning on the overwelming power of desire. Whatever relationship we had an thought so indestructible flew away with the first huff and puff of the wolf.

I always thought the song was the beginning of a conversation where a teenage girl tells her mother that she is pregnant. Contrasting the general conformist, right wing tone of the mother's hypocritical "lessons" of "not this/then this," and the aspects of reality presented by the daughter who narrates the song.

That's Kim Deal from the Pixies singing with Kim on this song.

I have always wondered just what this song was about. The mother-daughter idea sounds pretty right.. In the clip, there is this weird alien thing and i didn't really know how that fitted in, hmm... anyway, Sonic Youth are amazing! timeless..

@my-apple-your-eye I think that it is because she feels like she is being treated like an alien for having an opinion that isn't the majority opinion by her mother. In other words:Her mother is treating her like an alien for being independent and thinking for herself.
