Expressway to Yr Skull/Madonna, Sean and Me/The Crucifixion of Sean Penn Lyrics

[Thurston]
We're gonna kill
the California girls
we're gonna fire the exploding load in the milkmaid maiden head
we're gonna find the meaning
of feeling good
and we're gonna stay there as long as we think we should

the ending to this is fantastic. fuck geffen for following it up with "bubblegum"

@Ryan W=BarkleyXCore Sonic Youth was on the indie label SST in 1986 when this came out. It was NOT on the original album, it was a B-side of the 7 inch single "Starpower". And SST gave the band full control. So you might as well say "Fuck Sonic Youth for following it up with..."

Egh bubblegum is a shit song... What kind of hippy would call their child bubblegum. Apparently Sonic Youth had a thing about Madonna and Sean Penn, they mention their names in numerous songs.

@ZEROpumpkins It is a cover of a Kim Fowley song, and was originally a throw-away B-side of the 7 inch single "Starpower". It was not on the original SST records album release in the 80s. I got into Sonic Youth in 1985, and since 1986 probably saw them 60 times or so, I'm even in their final video. In 1986 they did indeed have a Madonna fixation (listen to their cover "Into the Groovy"). On the Evol tour, Lee at a HUGE cassette boombox on stage, mic'd up. At the end of shows, he cranked up...

I agree with ohelllowhat and Nick C. on this one. It seems very much like a sort of psychedelic roadtrip song, the ridiculous thing several misfits imagine doing and and declare that they will before setting out for nowhere in particular.

EVOL was released on the SST label. it was SST who first decided to put "Bubblegum" at the end of the CD, not Geffen.

One of the all-time great guitar songs. Lyrics are pretty thin...just some more SY deconstruction of Hollywood icons.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels EVOL is ruined on CD somewhat by tacking on "Bubblegum" at the end of it. The vinyl is the best, with a locked groove that will play forever on the last few seconds until you pick the needle up. The time listed on the record label for the track is the symbol for infinity!

As others have noted, it was SST who first tacked on "Bubblegum" to the CD version, not DGC. Give David Geffen a break, he sure did cut Sonic Youth a lot of slack during their tenure on his label. Only two albums that sold worth a damn (Dirty and Experimental Jet Set), but they were treated like royalty at his label.

My thoughts abt this songs or meaning is that song is about young people which wanna express their desire for finally good and happy living.

Younger people often got life's obstacles for getting some little pleasures and comforts in life. They dream abt "feeling good" and staying on that heavenly place in their life dreams.

"We gonna kill California girls".... and will have great time! - I would say! Song is beautiful and very, very imaginative or dreamy.

the title is most likely a reference to the soul survivors hit expressway to your heart.

This song sounds like its about knowing someone really well. "expressway to yr skull" could mean theyre living inside of each others heads.
