Lonely Is The Word Lyrics
Very good song! the instrumental part is awesome!
Easily Sabbath's most underatted song IMO although its tough to be noticed on such a killer album with songs like children of the sea, Neon Kights, heaven and hell and die young. Dio vocals are just stunning. the lines "Yeah, lonely its the name, Maybe life's a losing game?" are almost as spectacular as "I see a rainbow rising" from stargazer
This song to me (not necessarily what it means) is about losing everything, whether it be a relationship or friendship and feeling like you have to go through everything alone and you feel like your going nowhere.
Has anyone else noticed that near the end is a rip-off of Stairway to Heaven?
yup!
yup!
Yes i do. Quite easy to spot

@whiterabies Yeah, I just heard this song for the first time today and it immediately occurred to me. It's funny how Led Zeppelin got so much crap over "Taurus" yet stuff like this goes largely unnoticed.

I guess this is about feeling lonely and not having anywhere to go. It seems like the person once had it all and now has nothing. My favorite dio-sabbath song. "Lonely is the name, mabey life's a losing game" is my favorite line ever, and i don't hear anything relating to stairway to heaven
To even utter such words as "Stairway to Heaven" in the same sentence as Sabbath makes my skin crawl. Nothing even compares to Sabbath and Sabbath has their own style. Zepplin was a "wanna be".
Great Sabbath song as he is... the Metal Lord.
This song hits me hard as I had the opportunity to meet what I thought was my future and I lost it all.
Lonely IS The Word!
lol I know Sabbath rules. Dio especially.
But I'm not the only one who hears Zeppelin in there:
Honestly yeah the keyboard at the end sounds like Robert Plants screams in the middle of Stairway. However, when I play this song for people who have never heard it and are familiar with classic rock and/or metal I compare the guitar solo at the end and tell people that in my opinion it actually rivals Stairway To Heaven as one the greatest solos, not just in metal but PERIOD!!Definitely Tony Iommi's best work.Am I the only one who noticed how much better Sabbath got as musicians when Dio joined the band?Don't get me wrong,Ozzy is their best frontman, but their playing was very basic three chord riffs. As good as they were I think Dio gave them a much needed kick in the ass and really brought out the best in their style.I hope they make another album together now that Dio rejoined them under the Heaven & Hell moniker.
I think this song might be about "the traveler" from star trek.. or its at least inspired by him.
This song is obviously written from Lucifer's (aka the devil's) perspective. When he was cast out of heaven, he was forced to roam to and fro about the Earth. As he fell from Heaven, he passed the back side of the moon, which also makes you understand how dark his world is now. Once upon a time he was the most powerful angel in all of heaven and had millions under his command. Now he's alone, but wants to let you know that he understands how loneliness and sadness feels. So come join him if you're sad and lonely. To hang your head is also to bow your head which signifies servitude.
the traveler is me!
