The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
Sing me a song, you're a singer
Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil
The Devil is never a maker
The less that you give, you're a taker
So it's on and on and on, it's Heaven and Hell,
Oh well, yeah um
The lover of life's not a sinner
The ending is just a beginner
The closer you get to the meaning
The sooner you know that you're dreaming
So it's on and on and on, oh it's on and on and on
It goes on and on and on, Heaven and Hell
I can tell, fool fool
(Ahhhhh-ah, ahhhhh-ah)
Oh-oh oohh-oohh
(Ahhhhhhhhh-ah)
Yeah yeah yeah-death
Well if it seems to be real, it's illusion
For every moment of truth, there's confusion in life
Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer
And it's on and on, on and on and on...
(Ahhh-ah, ahhhhhhhhh-ah)
They say that life's a carousel
Spinning fast, you gotta ride it well
The world is full of Kings and Queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
It's Heaven and Hell, oh well
And they'll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
You get to keep the gold that falls
It's Heaven and Hell, noh no
Fool fool, you got to bleed for the dancer
Fool fool, look for the answer
Fool, fool, fool
Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil
The Devil is never a maker
The less that you give, you're a taker
So it's on and on and on, it's Heaven and Hell,
Oh well, yeah um
The lover of life's not a sinner
The ending is just a beginner

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
I love Dio. It sounds more like what Sabbath stands for when Dio was singing, cuz with Ozzy it becomes sellout-ish, just like Ozzy is a sellout. Dio takes Sabbath back to the pure days of rock. Even Sabbath now, after the reunion tour said that was the end, but here they are, making more money off Ozzfest 2005. Ah well, at least I get another chance to see them now ^_^ Plus... Dio's voice rocks my world. This song slays!
@RainbowDemon 'A sell out'? Bit harsh, he's pretty much a slightly dumb hippy dude! Dumb in the best way!

Strange, I can never listen to Dio with Sabs. Just doesn't work, even remotely (for me). So many rate this song and album hiighly - as soon as the vocals come in I just want it to stop and play Masters of Reality or Vol 4. Hey ho, takes all sorts.
