Into The Void Lyrics

Rocket engines burning fuel so fast,
Up into the night sky they blast,
Through the universe the engines whine,
Could it be the end of man and time?
Back on earth the flame of life burns low,
Ev'rywhere is misery and woe,
Pollution kills the air, the land and sea,
Man prepares to meet his destiny. Yeah

Rocket engines burning fuel so fast,
Up into the black sky so vast,
Burning metal through the atmosphere,
Earth remains in worry, hate and fear
With the hateful battles raging on,
Rockets flying to the glowing sun
Through the empires of eternal void
Freedom from the final suicide

Freedom fighters sent out to the sun,
Escape from brainwashed minds and pollution
Leave the earth to all its sin and hate,
Find another world where freedom waits. Yeah

Past the stars in fields of ancient void,
Through the shields of darkness where they find,
Love upon a land a world unknown
Where the sons of freedom make their home
Leave the earth to Satan and his slaves
Leave them to their future in their grave
Make a home where love is there to stay
Peace and happiness in every day.

It's about mankind's destruction of its planet and complete disregard of the issue (at the time.) This song is only proving more true as time progresses. As for Soundgarden's cover, it should be counted as plagiarism, they stole the song but altered the lyrics entirely.

this song gave birth to stoner/doom metal

So right. Epically slow and heavy

Their first track (black sabbath) was the birth of stoner/doom metal

This song was taken from a Indian Chief's letter to Thomas Jefferson. The Chief 's Name was Chief Sealth in modern English Seatle. You can find a copy of the letter in Wolden Woods Edited by Don Henley yes the Eagles drummer

Lemme clear it up for you, guy. Obviously, the lyrics deal with the environmental destruction of the Earth, which Sealth warned against. That's why when Soundgarden did a cover of this song in 1992, they replaced the original lyrics with the text of Sealth's famous speech. I don't think that's what Sabbath in mind with the original cut though, even though you can easily see the connection.

I'm guessing it saying he wants to go to Heaven where there is peace and love and leave earth(which is hell)
