Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) Lyrics
Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope
With this heavy load
Trying to touch you, reach you
With heart and soul
My Lord
Please take hold of my hand
That I might understand you
Won't you please oh
Won't you...
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Help me cope
With this heavy load
Trying to touch you, reach you
With heart and soul
Please take hold of my hand
That I might understand you
Won't you please oh
Won't you...

The line "Keep me free from burden" should actually read "Keep me free from birth", and "My love" should be "My Lord." He's singing about wanting to be free from the sufferings of the physical world, ie free from reincarnation, and to be close to God. He's asking God to help him break free from the trappings and burdens of this world and to transcend into the next.
Love the slide guitar.
Purely a beautiful song. One of my favorites of all time. It's great because we all need love, and we all feel the need to escape the material world. Free me from this world and let me love you, Lord. He is sure with him now.
it's what everybody needs. Love, light, life and hope.

"The wrong two Beatles died first" I've never heard that before, but it's so true. Yeah, just like sloop said, it's a plea (plee?) to God leave the material world (also the name of the album) after death and be able to be as close to God and free of material burden while on Earth.
shit, double post. I feel retarded. Forgive me I said"retry" when my computer gave me a box.
Words Can't describe how good this song is.
When I went to look up this song I was shocked at how few lyrics there was. I had an impression of it much lyrically longer song I think, but it's the same pieces repeated over and over.
Now I think that the composition reflects the rebirth cycle that he is singing about - especially since the last two lines lead back into the first few.
A beautiful prayer. We need more songs like this in our material world.
