For Crying Out Loud Lyrics
I was lost till you were found
But I never knew how far down
I was falling
Before I reached the bottom
I was cold and you were fire
And I never knew how the pyre
Could be burning
On the edge of the ice field
And the now chilly California wind
Is blowing down our bodies again
And we're sinking deeper and deeper into the chilly California sand
Oh I know you belong inside my aching heart
And can't you see my faded Levis bursting apart
And don't you hear me crying:
"Oh Babe, don't go"
And don't you hear me screaming:
"How was I to know?"
I'm in the middle of nowhere
Near the end of the line
But there's a border to somewhere waiting
And there's a tankful of time
Oh give me just another moment to see the light of the day
And take me to another land where I don't have to stay
And I'm gonna need somebody to make me feel like you do
And I will receive somebody with open arms, open eyes,
Open up the sky and let the planet that I love shine through
For crying out loud
You know I love you
For crying out loud
You know I love you
For crying out loud
You know I love you
I was damned and you were saved
And I never knew how enslaved
I was kneeling
In the chains of my master
I could laugh but you could cry
And I never knew just how high
I was flying
Ah, with you right above me
I'm in the middle of nowhere
Near the end of the line
But there's a border to somewhere waiting
And there's a tankful of time
Oh give me just another moment to see the light of the day
And take me to another land where I don't have to stay
And I'm gonna need somebody to make me feel like you do
And I will receive somebody with open arms, open eyes,
Open up the sky and let the planet that I love shine through
For crying out loud
You know I love you
For crying out loud
You know I love your
For crying out loud
You know I love you
For taking in the rain when I'm feeling so dry
For giving me the answers when I'm asking you why
And my oh my
For that I thank you
For taking in the sun when I'm feeling so cold
For giving me a child when my body is old
And don't you know
For that I need you
For coming to my room when you know I'm alone
For finding me a highway and driving me home
And you gotta know
For that I serve you
For pulling me away when I'm starting to fall
For revving me up when I'm starting to stall
And all in all
For that I want you
For taking and for giving and for playing the game
For praying for my future in the days that remain
Oh Lord
For that I hold you
Ah but most of all
For cryin' out loud
For that I love you
Ah but most of all
For cryin' out loud
For that I love you
Ah but most of all
For cryin' out loud

Fantastic song, and full of complex verbal twists, as per usual with Meatloaf.
The meaning though is in the double meaning of "crying out loud". The expression "for crying out load" is a frustrated one - sort of like FFS, only less ... erm ... expressive. So he is partially saying "yes, FFS, of course I love you".
But the literal meaning of the words is the real reason he loves her, because she expresses herself, she shows what she feels. For that reason, primarily, he loves her.

I absolutely love the piano in this song. It's one of my favourite on the album.
ye the 3 minute piano solo at the start of the song is just fantastic. one of the most under-rated songs ever.
This entire album is a masterpiece. There isn't a bad song on it and this one is no exception.
@MetalNick Well... Paradise by the Dashboard Light isn't that strong compared to the rest....

My interpretation of the songs is it sounds like a couple and he was a alcoholic or on hard drugs and she took care of him like a co-dependent. I think she tried to save him and he never would change. Then she turned around and said I can't do this anymore I love you, but I'm leaving you. It took him by surprise and he doesn't know how he will go on with out her because she has always done so much for him and her leaving him was his rock bottom. So he says to her just give me another chance, how can I live with out you, I didn't realize how bad I was falling. He says maybe in another lifetime we could have made it till death do us part. At the end he realizes she is leaving and he thanks her for everything she has ever done for him and when she is lonely and sad remember that he always loved her.
After Meat Loaf released his first album "Bat Out Of Hell" he got deeply into drugs and alcohol, and he nearly died. His wife stood by him and helped him back to health. This song is about coming back from the brink, rerdemption, and gratitude.
Notice the following lyrics in the sense of that story:
"I was lost till you were found And I never knew how far down I was falling (Drugs) before I reached the bottom"
"I was damned and you were saved And I never knew how enslaved
I was kneeling in the chains Of my master" (Drugs and booze)
"I could laugh but you could cry And I never knew just how high (Being high) I was flying with you Right above me"
"For pulling me away when I'm starting to fall For revvin' me up when I'm starting to stall And all in all For that I want you"
" I'm in the middle of nowhere Near the end of the line (The hopelessness of addiction) But there's a border to somewhere waiting And there's a tankful of time
Oh give me just another moment
To see the light of the day (Help me kick this) And take me to another land where I don't have to stay
And I'm gonna need somebody (I can't do it without you) To make me feel like you do
And I will receive somebody
With open arms, open eyes Open up the sky and let the planet that I love shine through" (It's all closing in on me)
@WolfComeCallin You know this song is on Bat Out Of Hell?

Personally i think this song is about death. Its about a couple in a long lasting relation and he is going to die for what ever reason. second i think, there is a reference to not 1 but 2 persons in this song, There is the Wife/girlfriend who he is afraid to leave and who he is thanking and then there his mother his first save haven who he is about to meet again
How could no one comment on this song. Its such a deep and meaningful song...
This song is beautiful.... Its about growing old with the one you love. He's saying thankyou for his soulmates dependability!
I've always interpreted it as almost the opposite.

I've always imagined the song as two lovers who are being forced to separate by forces out of their control, possibly even the singer's lover nearing death. The song is actually the singer's final goodbye to his lover.
