Used Lyrics

"I am the unclean
The black drop at the bottom of your cup
You'd better drink or throw me up
'cause I'm on your lip and tongue
God, I'm not yours as much as you are mine
So let me in to be your lung
Just breathe me deep and take another sip
So still, a taste so sweet but so bitter the kill
Still on your lip
You are so close
I'll let you come between my legs
You are closer death than sun
and I'm not your daughter as much as you're my son
I'll let you come
In my mouth! On your lip!
So ready and thirsty for the next sip
You let me in, I let you come
I'd never let you down
You let me win, I let you drown!"

[CHORUS] Getting used to pain – Getting used to pain
Getting used to pain – Getting
(x2)
I am crying unwept tears through this violence
I'll die trying to break this thick crust of silence

"I am the greatest star
So bright that you all come forth and beg to taste my light
I can take you far, but I'll burn you out before we get there
But hey! Who am I to stand in your way?
Go ahead! Swallow me down!
I'll have no problems finding myself out
When you've gone down
When you’re all cracked and wound"
[CHORUS]

Trading pain is a bad deal
I've got more than my share
Too much to bear!
Every beat of the hammer
Every blood-stricken street
a way to trade off heat
(Getting used to pain – Getting used to pain – x8)
I’m getting used – I’m getting used
They will bleed 'till I'm empty
If I deserve to die,
I'll make it show
I will stain your affection
I will wear out your heart
You'll follow where I go
(Getting used to pain – Getting used to pain – x16)

Blood stains! Cut veins!
Filthy! Murder!
Leave me
Leave me
Leave me

I beleive this song is from the perspective, and experience, of the main male character in the concept. He is using sex to fill the holes in side him self, created by the abuse he suffered during his childhood. At the same time, it could also describe an adult sexually abusing a child,as above. The two are tied together.

This song is definitely from the male character's perspective. In The Flesh is from the female's, though lyrically they feel related enough to think they're of the same person.

I think this song deals about child abusin'."Getting used to pain". Unfortunately the girl cant talk with anybody about this topic. "I'll die trying to break this thick crust of silence". The man(father?) that is abusing her, experienced a lot of pain in his childhood to. So he didnt see, why he should behave to his owhn child in another way. "They will bleed till I'm empty If I deserve to die I'll make it show[...]You'll follow where I go".

I think the one who's talking is He's pain. "I'm not yours as much as you are mine" - the pain owns him

"Between my legs you are closer death than sun And I'm not your daughter as much as you're my son" - Seems like his pain takes the form of a woman. Maybe it has something to do with his mother.

"You let me win, I let you drown" - He is fighting constantly with this pain, and is he gives up, he would drown.

"I am crying unwept tears through this violence I'll die trying to break this thick crust of silence" - I think that He is violent and abusive towards others and that's his way of crying as a result of this pain. It seems that he deals with his pain alone and doesn't tell anyone about the source of that pain.

"I am the greatest star So bright that you all come forth and beg to taste my light I can take you far but I'll burn you out before we get there" - The pain is general and everybody has it. It seems that people want to embrace this pain in order to deal with what happens to them, but if they embrace it too much, they drown and burn out. He's violence is his embracement of this pain, but going to far with it will make him drown.

"They will bleed till I'm empty If I deserve to die I'll make it show" - He's violence towards others. "I will stain your affection, I will wear out your heart You'll follow where I go" - This time I think it's the pain who wears out He's heart.
