Might Have Ben Hur Lyrics
Everything I know
Tells me she's everything
That I could hope for
Everything I know
Tells me I can't let her walk away
I took my time to find the words
I hope she'd feel the same
'Cause I want someone to share my smile
To share the pain
To be there when the sea turns gray
To share the joy
For better or worse
{chorus}:
And I thought that it might have been her
I thought that it might have been her
Wonder if she knows
The way I saw her soul
Light up my life
Wonder if she knows
of the pain I feel tonight
Tells me she's everything
That I could hope for
Everything I know
Tells me I can't let her walk away
I hope she'd feel the same
To share the pain
To be there when the sea turns gray
To share the joy
For better or worse
And I thought that it might have been her
I thought that it might have been her
The way I saw her soul
Light up my life
Wonder if she knows
of the pain I feel tonight

It shows how no matter how strongly we feel towards another human being, the only love that can ever be truely fufilled is the loving relationship we seek to establish with God.
In the song, he put too much faith into this relationship with this girl, he tried to make her into some sort of supernatural figure who could always be there for him whenever he needed anything...
No human being can fit that mold though, the only one who can is God.
This isn't a beautiful song of love! Look at the last verse!
Wonder if she knows The way I saw her soul Light up my life Wonder if she knows of the PAIN I feel tonight
He feels pain, not love! It's a song of rejection, the guy was rejeted by the girl because he wanted this super intense relationship and that is obviously not what she was looking for... it shows us that we can't put our faith in individuals unless that individual is God.
Okay, maybe some people don't see the whole God reference in this because the words "Him", "You", "Lord" or "God" aren't in the song... but you have to look deeper then individual words (love, eyes, light up life), you have to look at the ENTIRE song and you have to think about what it is saying to find a meaning for a song.
I dunno, osubuckey, I know most of Switchfoot's songs are Christian-based (and awesome songs at that), but this one just sounds like a story of unsuccessful love. He liked a girl, she didn't like him back. It might be about God, but I don't really see it. But your interpretation is a good one, it could go either way.
Does anyone know who's doing the backing vocals on the last chorus? They're really good.
i agree with Stone Free. This might actually be the one song that Switchfoot is talking about human love, and just human love.
this song is so awesome...."i want somone to share the smile, share the pain, to be there when the sea turns grey, to share the joy, for better or worse..." its like the ultimate love song-- so beautiful...i loved it from the first time i heard it!
Im so with you on that one. I have been listening to this song for a year strait every day practicly, and it has not gotten old at all! It has the same impact on me every time. Beautiful song of love
i guess this one is about thinking you found the perosn that is ' the one' , but then realizing that is really hard to find the one
Wow. I always feel both joy and sadness when I hear this song. He's talking about finding that one girl to spend the rest of his life with. He proposes to the woman he thinks is The One, and gets heartbroken. It's one of those "Awwww" and sad- sigh songs. I hope my One is on the way, but like Jon, I'm gonna have to wait a while.
osubuckeye420 - great summation of the song. Hit the nail on the head!
i love this song. i did love it the first time i heard it. I love it so much because it is so true. we all feel that way one time or another. i just wish i could write things that truthful.
This is a great song and I know exactly what it's talking about because I'm in the exact same situation right now. Every verse and every line is exactly how I feel. It's amazing they got it all correct.
Switchfoot rocks!
